Have you guy's played Five Night's at Freddy's?

So I was at a friends house the other day hanging out and she told to me play this very crude looking game called Five Nights at Freddy's.

The game is very simple, just a mere point and click game, no walking, no searching just watching. So idea is that you're a security guard for this diner or whatever it is and you get to watch overnight but the thing is, there are mascots in the place that are sentient and out there to kill you.

Really intense game. I highly recommend it. I would link a video but I don't want to spoil the fun.

It is kind of a point and click adventure game where you are in a Chuck E Cheese and the mascots are evil. I really like the idea if nothing else...

Yeah I can't believe a pretty ludicrous idea like demented mascots out to get you and a pretty simple gameplay mechanic can work wonders when done right. Goes to show that you don't need big budget to make a phenomenal game.

Yes, I mentioned this on the 'Horror' thread only the other day. It's a great, if basic, game. At first I never really understood what was going on at all, but then I got quite heavily into it. Talk about intense…!

Foxy from Pirate Cove is the one that really gets to me. I really hate him! He's the only one you see physically walking/running on camera. The first time I saw that I daren't repeat what I said at first, but after saying it the hairs on my arms stood up and not knowing to shut the door more or less there and then – you can guess what happened. Head around the door and that squeal of his…! Dear god! That was a decent scare and still got me several times after that…

It’s one of those games you could get easily startled and frightened with the first half a dozen or so times you play it but I could see it loosing it's effect after that. It's not really the game's fault – that happens with just about all similar sorts of horror titles.

I do highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it as of yet and take a word of advice – keep a spare pair of underwear close-by to one side.

Exactly. I've had more genuine scares from indie horror titles over the past two or three years than I've had out of any mainstream offering. Again, this is why I hugely support the indie titles as the developers/producers think of the gamer and what they would like. The larger companies tend to have the, dare I say it, 'younger-gamer' mentality of thinking graphics are the sole important thing in a game these days. Oh yes, and their wallets…

I love it, it's not so much about the jump scare as it is, the fear OF the jump scare. You don't want it to happen...

Agreed. I think companies tend to treat their consumers as idiots these days, giving us the exact same thing and expecting us to go "Duuhh... Okay". Like the other day, I was playing Dead Space 3. I loved the first game I thought it was one of the best horror games in existence but they should've just ended the game right there because the sequels don't come close to the first game. Just for the money.

The fox is annoying, but it starts getting repetitive. The same things pop up after a while, there's no change in graphics much but damn, the eyes are creepy. I don't know what it is about the eyes but there's just something, it's like Chucky but not Chucky. Not as creepy as Chucky, though if someone did a pop-culture version of it and replaced the puppets with Jigsaw/Freddy Krueger etc, that would be much better. I think the level of intensity needs to be jacked up though, you need more of a story than just five nights as a security guard. The puppets could also look creepier, I was hoping they'd be really scary not just ... blah.

Yes, that's the unfortunate problem with many of these sorts of horror games. They're superb to play half a dozen times over or so, but they do indeed become repetitive after a while. Much like the saying 'The star that shines twice as bright, lives only half as long'. It does pain me to say that as I do find this can be genuinely frightening to play. It's certainly a quality game.

On the whole though, I don't think this game is quite as predictable as some may think though - as the timings of your most exposed moments are never quite the same. Well, they haven't been on any of my plays of the game, so far... You can kind-of predict Foxy by his sounds but you really do have to be 'quick on the draw' to save yourself. This is just one of several things which makes me fear him above the rest.

Anyway, Five Nights At Freddy's 2 has been confirmed for next year apparently:

If they turned this into a full fledged game for PS4 or XOne and fleshed the game out with backstory, I think this would have heaps of potential. Maybe a better design for the interaction with the game and better graphics, but if you were sitting in the dark with this on a flat screen TV with a controller in your hand, you'd probably go through a few pairs of underwear.

Judging by the title, it sounds like a horror game. Man I will dig that one.
