CoD Advanced Warfare First Impressions?

I'm not a lover of FPS games (probably mentioned that about 20 times now!), so I tend to only give them passing glances more than anything.

As things stand, I've seen about 25 minutes worth of footage of the single player/campaign online. Graphically it looks very impressive but again, I value gameplay and story over anything else. It seems you’re thrown in at the deep end. I quite like those jet powered gravity boot things – or whatever they are. That's quite a neat touch.

I have to say that, unless there's something seriously wrong with my laptop monitor that I've viewed it on, the grenades don’t seem to track through the air properly from the character you play. When you throw one, you'd imagine it to gracefully arc through the air. In this game, again unless it's my monitor, they seem to leave your hand then sit stationary in the air with a line of light circling them sporadically, then explode roughly where you wanted to throw it. Very odd. Am I the only person who can see this?

Were they tracking grenades? They have these grenades you toss in the air, they hover, find their target and go boom on them.

I like the game, it is ok, but nothing that makes me go WOW this is new! I really wish they brought back the spec ops missions. That is my favourite for co op play. Would rather an interesting challenge then just shooting people in multi player. Graphics, looks nice, though I do not notice a huge different from Ghost.

@Haymansafc those would be the tracker grenades.

I've been enjoying the game. I got the game on Tuesday after the courier service found my package (still don't know what went on and why I did not have it on launch). The single player is well, a CoD single player, its action packed, has a fairly good narrative but is nothing overly new, I haven't completed it yet so I'm avoiding every YouTube video discussing advanced warfare.

The MP is pretty gosh darn amazing, I mean the movement, the guns, the meta game etc.

I know there are bugs e.g. camo challenge resets should not reset but they do when you prestige, server lag, weird hit detection etc.

I tried playing again tonight, and it was the same bs. Ping constantly all over 4 bar-1 bar, and hit detection good then bad. Even in the same match. I get 5 kills, then suddenly my bullets do nothing.

The spawns are a little weird too, but I think that may have to do with the lag as well. Seem like the servers don't register your position all the time, so sometime people will spawn right behind you.

What? Really? I wonder if that's a glitch or supposed to happen? If it is supposed to then no real point doing those until you get to prestige master, stuff doing all those again, over and over.

Well its an odd one really because I prestiged the other day and I noticed how it said that your camo challenges will be unaffected.

Here's a screenshot from Ali-A prestige video.

It says camo challenges should be unaffected. At least that's what I've read from it.

Seems that way,and was in other CoD games too.
Must be a problem then.
Wonder how long before the first patch comes.

I'm a few missions into the campaign but am really enjoying it. I generally only play COD games for the single-player campaign so I'm not disappointed. The story is generic, but the Exo Armour is a welcome change.

The online multiplayer is good too surprisingly. Have already ranked up to Rank 31 (thank you Double XP :)) and been playing Domination mostly, but it's been fun. Don't know how long I'll be playing online multiplayer for as usually the community kills it for me (you know, raging teens, death threats, the usual).

And finally, Exo Survival (Is that what it's called?) is good. I love some Co-op. Basically just like MW3's Survival, but with Exo Armour. Only problem is I can't seem to get past Wave 7 with anybody lol.

Nice, can you tell me how long the campaign is? I mostly want it for campaign and local co-op(split screen).
Also can you try the local co-op and tell me what modes does it have?

I feel this game looks much better than ghosts..I held onto my cash and saved up for this one instead cause I've read countless reviews on how so many people thought ghosts was a disappointment visually compared to other games... With advanced warfare, the combat is mind blowing..i admire how fast everything is and the action scenes... Man this has to be my favorite shooter.... Can't really compare destiny as it's a different type of shooter... But I'm very happy...
The story line is great, using famous actors lol... Wonderful too say the last...
I haven't touched multiplayer... Got this game mostly for the story...
Same questions as above :P

Honestly, the campaign isn't long at all. I think it took me about 5 hours on Regular, maybe 6-7 on Veteran.

I'm pretty sure you can split-screen all modes (except for Campaign) - Online Multiplayer, Exo Survival. They all have a option to add a second controller.

I wish they focused more on the campaign than on the multiplayer....I haven't touch the multiplayer and don't intend to lol... Oh well...I enjoyed it

Unfortunately that will never happen as I'm pretty 98% of people only play COD for the Multiplayer, so Sledgehammer Games seem to concentrate more on that aspect.

Yep that's true...I know so many of my friend that buy this game strictly for multiplayer and have never touched the campaign..
Matter of fact, all my friends haven't touched the campaign every since black ops lol...
I find that strange.....

Campaign always comes first for me in any game. :)

I play the campaigns on CoD and BF games, but the primary reason I buy CoD games is for the MP.
However its not like I dont play the campaign,I know many people buy CoD games and never touch the campaign,I do find that odd too as you are not getting 100% of your money's worth are you?

btw: Had the game since day zero and still only played a handful of MP games.
Also only just got past the intro of the campaign,(just to see what it looked like) so Ive a lot of work to do.

I started the campaign after double xp ended, and planned to play the rest of it this weekend. Of course SH had to go and add double XP for the weekend, so looks like I'll hold off on the rest of the campaign until this week.

Same here.

I remember the good old days when COD was campaign only (and pretty much WWII stuff) I really enjoyed it.

I think ti wouldnt hurt them to put a 10 hour long campaign, considering they used real actors and stuff, they could get something terrific out of the campaign.

Agreed. I also would love to see COD go back to it's WWII roots. That's a dream I have. Or for anybody really to make a good WWII video game again. "Enemy Front" doesn't count as I heard it's pretty rubbish which is a pity.

Id go with that,a new CoD on PS4 but back to WWII. But would fans like it? How popular would it be?

Yeah probably not so popular these days. I guess it's all about looking "forward" rather then back.

It's a shame so many people prefer multiplayer over the campaign/single player. Sadly, it's a sign of the times where I accept I'm now behind, but where people like myself who don't have an abundance of friends find themselves increasingly forgotten in the gaming world. Personally, the main story/single player will always be 'the game' for me. This is regardless of whatever I'm playing. Anything else is merely an added bonus.

I've seen a good chunk of the campaign on YouTube now (end of Mission 8 / Sentinel) and I must say, I'm generally impressed with it as far as FPS games go. Generally speaking they offer nothing more than running into one area, shoot everything that moves (if your brain can calculate everything on the screen in time), move onto the next area and repeat the process until the game is over. This one however seems a little different. It actually has some sort of followable plot/storyline and there's some excellent, reasonably in-depth cut scenes too. There's more to the soundtrack than just relentless bullet-fire. In this respect alone, it has to be the best FPS game I've seen in several years.

So, would I buy it? Well, if it was going cheap and there wasn't anything else out there on the market at the time which took my fancy, then I probably would, yes. Would I go out of my way to specifically buy it though? No. Again, these sorts of games do very little for me. I generally find this genre very much over saturated (to the extreme in recent years) and overrated.

That sounds like them...! I don't recall having seen anything like them before... What made it even more confusing is that some you can just throw as normal and then, seemingly at random, these tracking ones come out. In the walkthrough I've been watching, they've been causing some understandable annoyance. On a few occasions they've been thrown towards a nearby enemy. They then stop in mid air emitting those strange lines of light and then head 45 degrees in another direction blowing something else up which is behind about eight other enemies you need to get through first!
