Trying to get into gaming female psychology...

Hey fellow men, I see everywhere that gamer girls and gamer ladies always tend to group themselves together, excluding boys and men.
On the internet I see a lot of Clans, Crews, Groups, even entire sites, made of "ladies only" or "women only" members.

Are you a lady? No? Then go away!

Why is that? What's wrong with gamer men?

I have a couple of ladies in my friend list, we play together sometimes and it's much fun so I do not really understand this behaviour.

Any ideas?

Not sure either.
I had a a few females in my CoD clan in the past, they are gone now for various reasons but my missus is still in my clan, though she doesnt play CoD much.

I never noticed that. But then again, never looked into it or really cared :)

I do have a theory on this though. Gaming always has been kind of a "boys club" kind of thing. For a very long time, video games were very male centric and the vast vast majority of gamers were male. It's only been the last few years that this has really begun to turn around and more female gamers are coming out of the woodwork. This could be their way of distinguishing or empowering themselves as girl gamers to stand out from the boys. I don't get it. To me a gamer is a gamer. Doesn't matter to me if you have a wee wee or a hoo ha.

Yeah, much probably Titan your theory is correct but I still don't get it either. Or perhaps it's because they are less in number so far, so it often happens that in a session of multiplayers, a lady ends up being the only one among creatures full of testosterone, so they need to feel the protection of a group. It would be nice to read a female point of view though. :)

I am a female gamer and I can only speak for myself.
To be honest, I would like to get in contact with other female gamers because it feels like it should be easier to talk to other female gamers.

With guys (and not all of them, thankfully there are many guys who are cool) it is always a bit icky. Especially with new people joining. you always have that one guy who starts stalking you or blames everything on your gender.
"You play FPS? but you are a girl, you must suck"...and if you actually blew it in a game then of course because you are female...not because you simply stuffed it up.

I would never join an all girls/girl only clan since this sounds a bit horrific to me and I like my fellow gamers (despite their gender) but I can see the appeal of a "safe haven" from weirdos.

I wonder if female gamers are stalking you guys too?
Any stories on that?

So far I only experienced male stalkers or heard of male stalkers.

Hello Nahunte, what you have said makes sense but it sounds curious. I mean, in order to avoid some stalkers, I avoid an entire population of gamers. It's a bit restrictive imo.

I met male stalkers too, but not because I'm a woman, but because I'm not young like the most people playing videogames. You know... my style of playing is not speedy nor frenzied like some 20yo players, so sometimes I hear "hey you're too slow, you suck and blah blah" Well... those stalkers are the ones that during a co-op session in whatever game, they play always alone because they think they rock more than the others. In Dragon Age, for example, we're supposed to play in 4 gamers organized like a tight team, while those super-heroes leave the group because they want to kill all monsters alone. Result: we loose the session. So... must I start a clan for 40+ players?? LOL!!

yeah do that :D
I am 30+ and I also was thinking if that is were I belong now...to the golden oldies :D

I agree with you though when it comes to the gender. All female groups would take the fun out of it,at least for me so I avoid them but I guess it is good that they exist since some people seem to need/want that.

I think it's because most men think woman can't do what men can so gaming is supposed to be a man only thing which is why female gamer's tend to group with other female gamer's. I'm a guy and I can get along with girls better than guys cause cause you can have decent conversations with girls cause alot of my friends talk about their personal lives which i dont wanna hear and are rude im not like most guys

My thinking? You like games? Awesome! Let's play. I don't give a damn. As long as we can have a civilized game, have fun and as long as you have hair in your genitalia region (or the capability if you choose to groom up ;)), you're cool in my book (sorry, just can't stand playing with children. Mostly because they don't shut up in the mic). And that's why I love gaming. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, Asian, male, female, older or younger. We all have this common past time we all love doing, it brings people together who would not normally socialize. It's a shame a few immature douche-nozzles, who can't even talk to a girl in real life, cause trouble and create a stigma on all us normal gamers.

I agree with Baswid. I'd like to meet more women because they are less competitive. Competition is good of course, but it should not be so extreme because we are just playing games.

yea us guys are very competitive and it ruins gaming where u cant have a conversation thats not about eachothers gfs etc. sex life all that stuff and im tired of all those immature convos and bragging. when i was a teenager yea i did all that but now it just seems to be so immature and annoying

I don't think I've ever talked with another guy online about me and my gf's sex life. Usually we talk strategy or get to know each other. Mostly strategy.

When we talk about kids, I agree, they never shut up and they scream a lot. But not every kid. I've a 19yo friend in my list (not really a kid but for me he still is) who's really a joy to play with. I also recently met a girl gamer, we play AC4 in multiplayer. She kicks ass with that game and we never loose a session. So, long life to girl gamers and non-screaming kids! LOL!

OMG. And when you ignore them, they keep asking if you're there and why you are ignoring them.

I would say at 19, they aren't a "kid" in the sense we're talking about. I've too played regularly with high schoolers and college students and they're quite mature.
