Resident Evil 7?

So, Resident Evil 6 was a hit or miss. Some gamers loved it while some hated it. Resident Evil 7 is an inevitable game on the PS4. I think Capcom is currently gathering feedback from different players as to what they would like to see in part 7. If you were to be asked by Capcom, what would you suggest?

Resident Evil 6 is one of the worst games I have ever played. It was more of shoot, shoot, shoot, stomp, smash, smash, then shoot, shoot and then shoot again. Simply put, it was not up to the par with the other games of the same series. Capcom clearly stated that they want to get more COD fans to play Resident Evil games, that's why they have changed the direction since Resident Evil 4.

I don't know if I would ever play a RS game again after the bitter taste RS 6 has left in my mouth. They can go to hell!

On the other hand, I am excited to see what The Evil Within, a new game directed by the creator of Resident Evil series, has in store for us.

Well, The Evil Within looks like Resident Evil 4.5, which is not a completely bad thing, so only time can tell if it's really worth it.

But for RE, seeing how the series are surprisingly getting even worse since the release of Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 7 would play something like heavy Rain, where you just press the buttons prompted by the quick time events.

From what I understand, Capcom intends to reboot the series and kinda start over, so, I don't know if the title will be called Resident Evil 7, but I am sure there will be another addition to the series. I haven't played 6, but I felt 5 was pretty disappointing.

Now, wouldn't that be interesting. Lol.

I think Capcom also sees what has happened to their survival horror series. That's why they are trying to get opinions from players to see what they want for the next game. Well, I want more scares in the next game. Less action-packed moments and more frights, scares and tense moments. It needs to go back to its roots. Or maybe go back to what made RE4 great in the first place.

Make it like 4. That's my suggestion. I think REsident Evil 6 over-thought a lot of things and felt the need to conform to people. Resident Evil is supposed to be scary. I think that if they make it like 4 but scary, with better graphics (duh) and smoother mechanics it'll be a huge win.

I think them trying to recreate what people liked about 4 is exactly what makes the new games so bad. Especially considering that RE4 already wasn't scary, but still is considered to be one of the best games in the franchise by many.
Which is something I simply do not understand.

While I liked RE4 as a whole, I hated it as a Resident Evil game, a main-numbered one no less, because it didn't have anything to do with the rest of the franchise. All the connections it had to the rest of the franchise were shoehorned in and completely unnecessary, so, if money wasn't such a big factor, they could've as well gone the route of the very first RE4 prototype (which became Devil May Cry) and turned it into a completely new franchise.
Or at least make it a spin-off series like Survivor was.

So instead of looking at RE4 and what people liked about that, I'd like them to look at the other games in the franchise and figure out how they can bring back all of those elements while modernizing the gameplay a bit. Bring back the Adventure-elements, bring back decent jump-scares, bring back puzzles, eerieness, quiet moments, moving through a big environment, the more classic horror movie feel of the story and presentation, slightly cheesy and not taking itself all that seriously and mix it all up with some action scenes and boss fights.

That's be cool.
Hard to pull off, but cool.

Oh, and no co-op. At least not in the main campaign.

I think Capcom has a lot of work in their hands. I see that different gamers have different preferences. There are those who want it to be more RE4-like and there are those who like it to be less RE4-like. It would be interesting to see what Capcom would do with their next game. Would they make it entirely first person? I wouldn't want that.

Oh, gathering community feedback? That's good, I'll have to check that out.

If I were to suggest what could save/reboot one of my favorite franchises, I would say first take a look at the biggest commercial successes in your series did, and look at what you did recently, and compare. As of now, the best selling RE game is RE2, followed closely by RE original. And what was the setup on those? They were both cited as survival-horror, but what really helped those games was the amount of cognitive work going on. Not only were both games very puzzle and exploration heavy, the actual site itself (the mansion, and Raccoon) were fleshed out to point where it felt like a living malevolent character of its own (part of the Silent Hill's later success). RE was a horror game that proved that you can do horror WITHOUT a helpless protagonist.

The whole setup for what made the games creepy was the cinematic approach to both of the games, with the camera angles and slow, deliberate changes gradually made along the game. Granted, most people did not like how the set camera angles necessitated tank controls, but that is precisely what created ATMOSPHERE (the lost, subtle art). RE did not have to rely on cheap scares, boogeymen, loud music, or explicit graphics to establish an unsettling mood. Most of the time, the mood was calm and quiet ... almost too quiet. That lets your players work up their own fears instead of your own manufactured ones. Since horror is subjective, all you did successfully was create the mood, add a little fuel, drop some story hints, and let the player immerse themselves.

Revelations was a step in the right direction towards comprising the new and old style. Improve on that, tighten up the controls more like RE4, and remember that horror is more of a mental exercise, not a physical one.
