Sony apologizes for GTA V leak as Rockstar is deeply disappointed

Sony has apologized for the GTA V assets leak that occurred last week. Now Sony has aplogized to Rockstar and all the fans for spoiling the content.

“Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto 5 through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online,” Sony wrote in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

“We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologise to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch.”

No doubt, Rockstar is also disappointed by the leak -

“As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game’s launch. GTA 5 represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17.”

Rockstar said it would revoke commenting privileges for those who tried to share links to the leaked assets on its own sites, and thanked fans for their “understanding and support”.

Not a big deal for me to be honest. What do you think about GTA V spoilers?

It's sad, but unfortunately the internet being what it is, it was only a matter of time. But I'm ignoring and avoiding spoilers or anything related to GTA V until I play the game myself. Much better surprise!

I'm not too surprised about this, but I feel bad for Sony's situation here, especially. What surprises me is that there's not been leaked copies of the actual game disc so far, or maybe I just don't know about them. Such big releases always get leaked early, no matter what.

Most of this would have come out either way - penii, necrophilia, etc.? Someone would have mentioned this getting banhammered or whatever and we would have gotten "spoilers" anyway. Personally I don't care because knowing something isn't nearly the same as playing something.

Whats the big deal really its maybe a few images or explanations i don't see much of a big deal in this if i'm honest, its not much of a spoiler?

I for one can't wait to get my hands on this game. It's going to be awesome when it comes out finally. I don't even know how I have managed to wait for this game so calmly.

I don't tend to worry about it too much, you know. I don't care about some minor spoilers like Disk space, size, some screenshots and some videos from the story. I don't care about spoilers, but some people do.

So, this is Sony's fault right? Hmm, Sony has had issues of security beaches, leaks and the like before. Though it's not a big deal, Sony has to tighten their security even with simple matters like this. We don't want the trust of developers and consumers to diminish, do we?

I don't know what leaked and I don't intend to find out. I know a few tracks leaked and that in my opinion is no big deal.

However I heard some rumours that the ending had leaked too, and well I'm not interested in confirming at all if this leak is true or not as this is one game I won't spoil for myself.

So, yes I do believe this is disappointing that this happened. But I don't think Rockstar should be disappointed at Sony. It's not completely their fault...

Someone just got fired for it, i am pretty sure.
But you can't predict and avoid this kinds of things, specially for a game like Grand Theft Auto, that thing is huge and everyone wants to know how will it happen, so it eventually happens, sooner or later.

...Well that sucks - no one likes being fired. Besides which it could have been an accident and/or not even related to whoever got left holding the bag. That said who really knows how this got out and why? I just hope nobody is going to be totally screwed over by this event.

Some devs are quite the opposite, you know. Devs like Ubisoft believes n letting their fanbase know as much about the game as possible. They are trying to tell us how hacking works in Watch Dogs and it's a good thing in my opinion.

And they released some demo soundtracks today. Sometimes developers like Rockstar do exaggerate things a little bit just to stir up the hype.

I dont know what the big deal is? From what I gather only a few tracks were leaked. Hardly something which spoils the suspense for users. Mountain out of a molehill really.

Wow. That sucks for Rockstar and I'm actually surprised they managed to stay relatively "calm" about the whole situation. I know they worked pretty hard on the game for the better part of several years, and for this to happen...well, like they said, how disappointing.

Yeah, it does seem kind of an overreaction, but maybe Rockstar just wants to keep the building of hype under their direct control? I don't know, but whatever - it isn't really my concern you know?

Perhaps it's not such a big deal, but leaks suck for them regardless. But I've seen more than just a few tracks being leaked, I think even the story has been leaked or something? Anyway, it's not uncommon to see such things with videogames. I mean, has anyone looked at Ubisoft lately? Everything Ubisoft does leaks and they don't even seem to care, haha.
