I must be about the only person that own a Playstation product but has never played a final fantasy game. Is it possible to play Crisis Core having never played FF or do you need the back story?

I still play Tekken on my PSP and I still love it. I do enjoy street fighter 2 and mortal Kombat but the look and feel of Tekken outshines them both.
