This actually makes sense to me. I think I did something similar when it came to RPGs on the PS2 because publishers got into the habit of putting "Over 90 Hours of Gameplay!" on the back of cases.

My PlayStation consoles never scratched discs. Question: Did you loan anyone games? Discs are awesome for the amount of data they can hold for a game, but they are the absolute worst to loan to anyone. It's not saying that they'll come back scratched each time, but you have 80% chance.

I dig sports games more like Blitz or Mutant League, but I'll play the Franchise mode of a sports game mainly because I like management sims.

I actually preferred Onimusha to RE and DMC as far as Capcom series went. I didn't care for that awkward movement mechanic, but the gameplay made up for it 10x.

As others have said, proper ventilation, not having it close to a wall, and not playing it non-stop like you're on a deserted island and that's your only source of entertainment are all key.
