Are Games Too Long?

Skyrim is great, I really don't keep track of the time anymore once I hop in-game because if you like the game, then you should enjoy playing it even for a lengthy time. And Skyrim does a great job at entertaining your quest every step of the way.

Btw, in my own opinion, some game developers/publishers release half of the game to the people just to sell them the rest of the game as DLCs, milking us dry from these microtransactions.

There are others though that genuinely give out new content to refresh a game. Cheers to those devs, and I also noticed that most of them are independent devs.

Sometimes I do prefer or wish that some of the games were shorter. I love getting involved in the games but some days I just want to play and be done with it.

Something i think i may be the only one who does, is, for some reason i only feel like i have got my moneys worth if i at least match the amount of time i played it to the cost of £1 per hour. What i mean with that is, if i bought a game for £40, then as long as i've got 40 hours out of it ( ie £1 per hour ) then some little button in my head goes click, yes this game was worth the money.

So if a game only lasts 6 hours, unless i've bought it for £6 or less, i'll feel it's too short.

Do people understand or was this one of those conversations in my head i shouldn't have said out loud ! LOLOLOL

This actually makes sense to me. I think I did something similar when it came to RPGs on the PS2 because publishers got into the habit of putting "Over 90 Hours of Gameplay!" on the back of cases.

A game for me is never too long. I honestly think the problem with a lot of games is that they are too short. For many games now-a-days 6 hours of gameplay, including cutscenes are considered to be a 'nice length' but honestly that's really really really short.

Most of the time with games like Skyrim, Fallout, AC etc I go back to them and keep pick axing away at them. The people who generally say a game is too long are people who want to complete games quickly to 'get them over with' which defeats the purpose of a game.

Only time I have the "get it over with" mentality in a game is when it's no good (Colonial Marines?) or I'm wanting to play another game. I don't mind long or short games. I like short games just because with the way my life has been lately, I don't have the time to go on marathon gaming sessions like I used to. Wish I could but I can't. I can play a few hours a week, get it beaten in a couple weeks and move on to the next one. Like right now, I'm STILL working on GTAV and I've been playing it since January. I've never taken that long to play a game but when you only have like 3-4 hours a week, it takes time. And I'm the kind of person that doesn't like moving on to a new game until the last one is beat. So right now, even though I'm enjoying GTAV, I am getting the "get it over with" mentality and just trying to blow through the story missions so I can get South Park

I agree that some games are long. I usually will try to play the whole game, but of course not in one day. If the game gets hard then I will leave it behind and then eventually one day go back to playing it again. I really can not think of any games right now that seem to long for me.

I'm not really a fan of games that takes forever to complete, although those kind of games would be a more suitable bang for the buck. I personally like games that offers a fair amount of play time but doesn't lack the entertainment value, some games that are too big often gets really boring and most of the filler side quests are just the same.

The Skyrims of the world are long, but that's the draw with an open-world type game. Uncharted III, in my opinion, was just too darn short. I blocked off a week of my life to play it, and ended up having four days of time

A game being too long? Nope I would complain because it was too short. I have played some that I thought were too short, but I love playing long games. In my opinion when you play a game that you like you would want it to be a great length. I do not mind a game being too long, but too short that is when I may be a little upset especially if I like the game.

Haha. I know what you mean. I managed to blow through all three in a little over a week or two but I didn't think they were overly short. Good length. But then again I did play all three at once

Don't get me wrong, I love the series. I still play all three about once a year. I guess I'm just jaded because I allowed myself to get over-hyped for Uncharted 3, and ended up having nothing to do.

They definitely made the game consistent through all three. But I liked that. Too often in a game series I have to relearn controls and interfaces and character moves...like every mass effect

That's what is great about the Uncharted series. You can just play each game and not have to change up the controls a whole lot. Now, if I could only find a way to get rid of those annoying jetski missions....

I think that there is a good balance at the moment. There are some games like Assassin's Creed and GTA that you can sink hundreds of hours into the campaign, but there are also plenty of other games that you can complete in under 10 hours.

There's no way a game will ever be too long, too short maybe but too long no. Unless of course it's such a boring game that you would actually just want to throw it away. Fun games on the other can never be too long.

Ya a lot of games are too long. There are just too many games constantly coming out to keep up with. Having to sink 40+ hours into a game just doesn't help. There is too much to play and not enough hours in the day.

I'm in your boat too mate. I used to be able to sink several amounts of hours into a game once upon a time. Now I just don't seem to have the attention span. I try to avoid some games that look good to me because they will take too long. Just short and sweet games for me.

When finishing a game I often find myself wishing there was so more content I could play through. There is always some room for a little extra detail. I don't think a game can ever be too long in my opinion.

No, Usually just as i start to get better at a game it ends lol i wouldn't mind if games were a bit longer.

There is no such thing as too many hours in a game. I don't want to pay 60 bucks or more for something that is only ten hours long. It'd be like going to the movies and only watching ten minutes of the movie then getting up and walking out. You don't have to do all the side quests if you don't want to, but you should definitely at least get 20 hours plus out of the main story of a game.

Some games I do certainly feel go on for too long, but for other games it is fine that they go on for a long time. It is all about trying to keep the player interested in the game, if they can do that, then the length doesn't matter too much.
