I have a Yamaha RX-V365 5.1-Channel Receiver that I will be using with my PS4. For some reason this model is not able to pass any audio through via HDMI (really Yamaha?), so I can’t simply connect everything via HDMI cables like you’d want to. So I’m using my Samsung LN-T4665F TV as the ‘receiver’. I have the PS4 HDMI out going to the TV, then Optical Audio out of my TV to the Receiver. The trouble is I’m not sure how to tell if I’m really getting true Surround Sound, as in the sound of the jet flying from left to right actually follows from left to right. I’ve been doing some reading but everyone throws around terms like Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM, Bistream, etc. in different contexts and I can’t keep it straight. I just want to know which settings I have to use on my PS4, TV and receiver to make sure I’m getting the best possible surround sound quality out of my setup! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
