Battlefield 4 help

Just got battlefield 4 and am coming from COD. the game is a lot of fun but I am absolutely horrible at it. I was averaging a k/d ratio of over 2 in modern warfare but am lucky to break 0.8 in battlefield 4. Looking for any pointers or squad mates who would want to team up and help an new player.

Mostly using carbines and engineer class but I can't hit the blind side of a barn. Aiming down the sites has me hitting everything but the target I'm going for.

Thanks

Patience young padwan.

You'll get better real quick. The first couple of hours is always a grind when starting. Play with the look sensitivity in controller options. Makes a huge difference. And while you are there, change the vehicle controls to "veteran" the default is horrid.

I'd suggest sticking to engineer or assault class to start. The default engineer carbine is the pick of the starting weapons IMO. I used this with upgrades as I unlocked them for a very long time before I moved on to a different weapon. Very versatile.

Stick with it. Until you at least unlock a basic red dot site you'll struggle. The iron sights suck, pure and simple. The default assault weapon is also quite good. But I find it's stability to be lacking. Full automatic fire is useless at anything beyond close range. Though its accuracy at med to med/long range is quite good for small controlled bursts.

Oh just a note. I'm still only learning BF4 too. I'm only at level 18 or so, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt. It's just my 2c.

I play both CoD and BF4 but only a BF novice too.
However I also suggest just play TDM or Dom for a while,no vehicles and smaller map sizes might make it a bit easier to get into.
At least you wont die from a heli or shot from the other side of the map..apart from snipers..they love sitting on rooftops and hills....lol

Only playing tdm for the time being and opting to stick with the engineer and carbine. I have a lot of problems with aiming and strafing from side to side. It seems incredibly sensitive when aiming down the sites.

Keep playing until you're good at it. Since you have only switched from CoD to BF4, it's only normal that you are bad at it initially. As you play more matches, you'll get accustomed to the players' playstyles and eventually you'll pick it up. I suggest you play the campaign first to have a feel for the controls and pacing of Battlefield gunplay. Like everyone has said, don't go in to those large maps that have vehicles first. Play free for all matches with smaller maps until you've levelled enough.

This is my first time playing any BF game also. I cant offer you any advice because I'm soaking up what others are giving you. LOL However, I do play almost every evening around 9pm U.S. Central time, look for my gamertag. GutterKeeper I have no one that I have clanned up with yet, because all of my friends are still on PS3. So the whole team work thing is new to me on BF also, I am use to CoD where you just kind of run and gun.

Having been a huge player of Battlefield 3 I can tell you the best advice I can give you is COVER.

Spend as little time as possible in the open.

Always look at your next bit of cover, never go running around without it.

And give your minimap a glance every few seconds. It's invaluable.

Just my experience from the older BF games. I'll be getting BF4 on PC so won't be playing it on my PS4 unfortunately :(

Thanks GutterKeeper. Might be worth teaming up for a few matches. I'll keep an eye out for you on PSN.

Also, does anyone know whether anyone uses a headset on ps4? I never hear anyone. Also, do you only hear people in your squad or do you hear everyone on your team?

I have to wait about another 3-4 weeks before I can go buy a good headset, right now I only use headphones to mute the audio for the rest of the family. I have only ever heard one person on chat and that was night before last, and he was not game chatting, but just talking to whoever was at his house.

For what it's worth I unlocked a suppressor for my ACW-4 carbine last night and my K/D ratio shot up.... HUGE! I played for about an hour and a half (maybe 7 games) and whereas before I probably averaged a 0.8x ratio tonight I averaged roughly 4.0x. I finished one game 14 and 2. My crappiest game was like 9 and 5. My overall average is now at 0.89 but I had played for two weeks and averaged a 0.8x on battlelog before tonight. Moving it .09 in an hour and a halfs play is pretty good I think.

Besides the suppressor I've been sticking with high rate of fire weapons (ACW shoots 850 rpm). Also started Going wide in levels bordering the map outlines and instead of rushing at the orange triangles on the map I was trying to flank them. I even worked in a few kills with my pistol. Hopefully this will be a turning point.

Hi mate.

I use my head set pretty much exclusively for Defuse servers. As communication is key to success in this mode. Otherwise I use it when my brother and I create a party and play another mode. It doesn't seem that headsets are used much by the BF4 community as a whole.

Not sure if you are located in AU or not, but if so add me to PSN and I'll invite you to the next party. If you are into COD you might enjoy Defuse.

I was on last night as well, and accepted your friend request. I was on for about an hour but was getting really frustrated because I was unable to use the items I unlocked Saturday. When I went to my soldier on the main screen it showed all my items available, however when I went into Multiplayer TDM it reset everything back to level one. I could not figure out how to get access to them at all, I even tried rebooting my PS4. Sorry if I piggy back off your post, but if anyone can tell me if I was doing something wrong please let me know. I pretty much just figured it was one of those glitches that finally hit me, but it was extremely frustrating, I went from a 1:1 KD to about a 0.3 KD and it was very unpleasant.

This has happened to me before. I think that EA is still having issues with the multiplayer component. I've started a game and then had all my guns reset. I didn't notice it when I first started out because I hadn't unlocked much but as I progressed it was obvious. I'll jump out of a server and then login and then, usually, I get my stuff back.

Since you were used to play Call of Duty it will take some time to change from one game to another. Don't worry too much about it, unfortunately I play it on the PC, because I could give you a couple tips over voice chat. :l

Yeah I tried all of that last night. I will try again when I get home tonight. Like I said the most frustrating part was when I went to look at what I had unlocked it was all there, but as soon as I would go into a server to play it was all gone. I would look at my battlelog during game play and my level would be at level 3 (which is where its suppose to be) then it would flash to 1 with no points and would go back and forth until the new session started. If it happens again tonight I might just have to switch over to Killzone for a while so I dont get too frustrated and not play it ever again. LOL
