Being an 'adult' gamer

Have you ever felt that you're 'too old this game' or that kind of feeling when you're playing a game and out of nowhere you just go 'I should be doing something productive instead of this' I mean you know fairly well that you're just trying to relax by playing video games but somehow you still feel that you need to do something productive. Have you ever felt like this?

Not really.I mean the trick is to try and find times for all things you need or want to do. Though that can be hard often.
When playing SP campaigns I usually dont play for long sessions like I used too either.
So I guess although I still like gaming my interest is'nt like it once was.
For eg a campaign that can be finished in a few nights EVEN if you take it easy like CoD campaigns make take me a week or even 2. Simply cause I dont play for long sessions or I miss days inbetween,I may play for an hour or so then go back to it in a few days for eg.

It depends on how much time I can spend on entertainment. If I have something important to do and play games instead, that kind of feeling might occur. Otherwise it doesn't. For me video games are in the same category as wathing a film, a match or reading a novel. I don't do any of these things the whole day and doing them doesn't make me feel bad or uncomfortable.

No really. I'm a Fashion designer and I have heaps of work to do most of the time. But on weekends when I have the time to play, I play hours on end. It's my relax time. At moments when I know I have something to do, I won't play I'll do what matters the most.

Never felt that way before. I only game when I'm free. I always made sure that I finished all my work before I game. Even if I have obligations to attend to, I'll make sure they can be completed later before I start playing.

My wife tried that on me once. You're too old for that. Well, gaming has been in my life longer than her (don't take that the wrong way I'm not going to chose gaming over her) its simply my preferred hobby which I have put my time and skills into and my friends are also into it.

Gaming is an art. There's going to be the games that will have these crazy stories and these expressions and parallels to the real world. Other times there will just be games of skill and strategy that you play with others. Sometimes you'll have FPS debates over two games where you shoot other people. In it all it combines the desire to play over many ages and many demographics.

The point is that you're only as old as you allow yourself to be. You only have one life and you have to enjoy what makes you feel good. If you want to play some games, then play some games. If you want to paint, then go paint. If you want to write then go write. Spend time with the loved ones, hit the gym, take it easy on the booze, keep your controller reflexes strong. Joelosophy.

When I was younger I'd often immerse myself in fantasy MMOs (particularly Everquest), even taking part in roleplay and story writing. These days, it's hard for me to really get into that sort of thing. I enjoy MMOs occasionally, particularly when I'm just laughing and having fun with friends on mumble, but it's hard for me to really lose myself in them as a virtual world the way I used to. Part of that is probably due to mmos being less immersive, with instant travel and instant grouping, but I think most of it is me just being too old.

That being said, I play Animal Crossing every day before I get out of bed and before I drift off to sleep, so apparently I'm not too old for that.

I played a TON of Everquest Online Adventures, that game with chat and updated graphics would be interesting again, but yes life changes and the time investment in a mmo is a lot. I think Destiny like DCUO gives the adult gamer the options to play 30 mins in free roam & multilayer games, or 3 hours in group raids.
My clan is an adult group, and Destiny was highly regarded by many of our older gamers who were not as into CoD or BF as many of us were.

There is no such thing as being to old for a game, so no ive never felt like this.
I have several time felt i can't be bothered with games and don't play any for a few months.

Yes and no. When yes, I become pretty depressed, when no, I am pretty happy. My relationship with gaming is thus, particularity bipolar. I have never felt that I was "too old" for any specific game, just thought I "could be doing something more productive." Then again, I do not play video-games to be "productive" in any traditional sense of the word. I usually play when I am drinking and wanting to relax for an hour or two. I can no longer sit and game for hours on end, so that is a plus--I guess.

I've never felt too old for games, but I'm also wearing a Pikachu hoodie right now, so maybe I just don't care in general. I do often feel like I could be more productive with my time though..

My PS4 should be here tomorrow and I just ordered Knack. When I was ordering it, I was thinking am I too old for this game.
It looked fun and had good reviews so I ordered it anyways.

No, not really. I only feel like that if i have something really important to do and instead of doing it, i'm playing video games. But if i've done everything i needed already, i never feel too old for video games. I still even play ninyendo games with an emulator. Games are games.

I feel like that once in awhile, especially with World of Warcraft. When I look at all the time I'm sinking into it, and how I could be spending that time making things for my small business, going on hikes or going to the beach, it feels really stupid. However, I really like playing that game and interacting with other players, so I just remind myself that that in and of itself is enough. Sometimes I get my friends telling me "you're such a geek" or my family saying "you should be doing something productive with yourself", but it's how I wind down. Some people like wine and watching TV, but WOW does it for me.

I used to feel like i was getting to old for gaming, then I thought about how the majority of people sit in front of their TVs for hours on end watching stupid shows and no one bats an eye... Why can't i do the exactl same thing with a controller in my hand?
