What game surprised you the most?
Something that you picked up without expecting much but blew you away? I'm looking for some hidden Vita gems.

Have to say I wasn't expecting much from Motogp13 that is free on the PS Plus at the moment, and it's AWSOME.

After that gems... Try Limbo ..

Hmm...Mercenary Kings, which I got for free. Didn't expect it to be that great, but it was really good, and I can't stop playing it now. But then I'm a sucker for a Metal Slug type game, so that helps a lot.

Honestly my biggest surprise for the Vita is that its getting Borderlands 2!

For games I've played I found Unit 13 to be a surprisingly solid TPS and I was amazed at how good Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward was.

In fact, I love Plus because it gave me Virtue's Last Reward. I decided to play 999 on DS, since VLR is its sequel. Surprisingly great games, criminally unknown.

You sir, have good taste. My goodness that story is so heavy and I loved every second of it. That is such a gem. I wanted to hit myself for not looking into the series more...I LOVE games that make me think. It's a shame that the gaming community doesn't support games like Zero Escape, but it's brillant. My real reason for never looking into it is because I gave up on Nintendo years ago. Then seeing this hit Vita I had to give it a try. At first I thought it was OK, but when I found out you can go to other routes you haven't explored (I won't spoil, but you know what I mean) I became addicted. I spent many hours on the game and worked my way to a platinum trophy. This was easily my surprise game.

I was surprised about Borderlands 2 as well, I had no expectation of getting something like that.

If we are sticking to Vita games I would say Persona 4:Golden.

I was just looking for an amusing littlen JRPG and had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. 80 hours later I found myself on the other side of one of my favorite video games ever. Such a great story, characters I actually came to care about and some of the best RPG game play in memory.

Persona 4, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, and Asphalt were all games that surprised me.

Persona 4: I'd never played a Persona game before this game. The story, as dumb as it was had me sacked in. I think it was more because of the characters. I actually cared about them, they felt organic. The music was catchy too. I spent roughly 90 hours level grinding and it didn't feel like a grind.


Dungeon Hunter and Asphalt were surprising simply based on how long I played the games. I'm still playing Dungeon Hunter Alliance to date.

It truly is a great story. The game actually sold really well in the west, but apparently not so well in its native land of Japan. The director Uchikoshi has posted on twitter about how the bad sales in Japan might cause Zero Escape 3 to not be made but fans in the west have shown a lot of support so hopefully they can work something out and it gets made, I want to see how this story continues.

If you still never got around to play the prequel (999), I definitely recommend you to at least watch a playthrough or something online, if you haven't already. I personally found it to be much darker all the way through, though VLR did get really dark later on. Playing the prequel also makes some stuff in VLR more meaningful. I love both games so much, I'm gonna replay them once they announce the third game being made.

I'm fairly late to the whole Atlus JRPG party. Ever since I finished Persona 4 Golden I've been playing every Shin Megami Tensei type game they release like a desperate drug addict needing his next fix..

They're releasing a bunch of their PS2 games on PSN now, you should definitely give them a look. Most recently they released Nocturne, which is the 3rd main SMT game and is simply fantastic. It's very hard and desolate compared to Persona, which is part of its greatness. The Press Turn combat system is genius since it's double rewarding and double punishing. I definitely recommend Nocturne.

Yea I noticed that Nocturne was just a week or two ago right? I doubt I'll ever have time to sit in front of my TV long enough to play all these JRPGs. I have all the older Persona games ready to go on my Vita and haven't started those either.. Not enough hours in the day..

Definitely not enough time for games, specially with so many coming out and those JRPGs are pretty damn long the first time through.
