Bluetooth

Derri

, , Darkness, ,
Is anyone surprised that they haven't brought out any Bluetooth earpieces like the PS3 had yet on PS4. I've been looking for one ever since my mono headset broke and there has been nothing about these.

Seems odd Sony didn't allow Bluetooth PS3 earpieces as compatible as I mean Bluetooth is Bluetooth right?

That's cause the PS4 doesnt support bluetooth headsets/earpiece whatever,at all. This may change...one day,but dont hold your breath.

I know they don't support it but I'm surprised they don't. I mean it has bluetooth built in (PS4) so I mean what are people going to use it for? Connecting a mouse and keyboard and maybe their mobile for the PS App.

Something about bluetooth profiles, wasnt added for chat.
But yeah,I still cant understand why not and as Ive said in similar threads not including bluetooth chat support is 'almost' unforgivable.
It's taking a step back if you ask me.

If all the idiots, racist and people blasting music stopped, we might have a good chance at bt support.

Those sorts of things can still be heard on current PS4 wired and wireless headsets so I really dont think Sony left that out of the PS4 for that reason.

I am a bit surprised they haven't done this yet. I mean I don't know much about technology but you would think a company like Sony would be able to include BlueTooth within their technology? I wonder why they haven't.

I know that Sony did add some headset support from PS3 headsets, but only wired USB headsets. I so wish they added bluetooth not only cause I picked one up a month before PS4 was released, but its so much better then the damn wired headset, just a total annoyance.

Besides that it makes no sense to not have a wireless headset, suppose to be the future of gaming, not going backwards.

The cynic in me thinks it's to sell more official headsets.

Part of me thinks it was just missed by mistake.

I'm not sure what the truth is but surely this needs to be added in the next firmware updates.

I think you get better sound from wired and don't like having to charge wireless headsets but we should at least get a choice if we want wireless.

There is probably non-official controller/headsets that support this.

Not bluetooth on the PS4 there isn't hence the disappointment from people with wireless headsets from Xbox or PS3 not working!

You can get a dongle and use WiFi headset but not currently bluetooth.

It's crazy as I can talk to my dpad via a chat cable but can't have the same tech on a headset?!

I think it's just a matter of time until either Sony or an unofficial third party solves this.
There is clearly lots of demand which means there is also a lot of money to be made.

Might not be possible!!!

The reason why the PS4 does not support current bluetooth headsets is this...

It is not possible to connect to multiple bluetooth audio devices at the same with current bluetooth audio profiles.

Why is that important?

Because each dualshock has a bluetooth headset built into it already and a system can support multiple dualshock.

Have you ever tried connecting two bluetooth headsets to your smart phone so both you and your friend can both listen at the same time.

Doesn't work!!!

So how did Sony overcome the problem of having a bluetooth headset on each dualshock and thus
ultimately multiple bluetooth headset to a single ps4.

I'm speculating but I assume they would have written a custom audio profile that allowed the bluetooth controller on the ps4 to be shared
across multiple bluetooth headsets (in each dualshock).

I believe this because when you attempt to pair any standard bluetooth headset to the ps4 while it does find the headset it fails
to recognise the blue tooth audio profiles advertised by that headset. So a different profile must instead be supported by the ps4.

The standard bluetooth audio profiles are:

Phone Audio - supports mono ear & mic, all low quality
Media Audio - supports stereo in hi-fidelity

Some headsets like the Sony MDR-1RBT support both simultaneously so you can listen to music and flip over to making phone calls.

It is possible to have multiple headset connected to a single smart phone but only as long as each headset uses a different profile.

As an example my Xperia is connect via Phone Audio to my Smartband Talk at the same time as being connected to my MDR-1RBT
(headphones) via Media audio.

However I have never seen/heard either of these two profiles working with multiple identical headsets simultaneously.

Also even if it were possible, setting up the pairing would require additional steps to describe to the PS4 which headset is for
which dualshock controller (you must associate a headset to a dualshock).

In addition if you did associate a different headset to your dualshock then you would probably have to disable (override) the built in
headset in the dualshock.

So my belief is current standard bluetooth headsets will probably never be supported on the PS4 because of these limitations and complications.

I would expect it would be easier for Sony to release a special stereo headset for the PS4 that used a custom audio profile like in the dualshock.

This sadly means I would expect you will need to buy even more peripherals specifically for the PS4.
