Borderlands 2 getting colourblind mode in upcoming update

The as-yet undated patch will introduce modes for three kinds of colour vision deficiency, designed to make it easier for affected users to spot the difference between normal and rare loot drops, which are indicated in-game by coloured beams of light.

In addition to altering the colours, Gearbox could implement addition effects, but because modifying the particle effects on the light beams would be too difficult, the developer has instead elected to add a colour tag on the text popup on loot.

The update’s release date will be announced in the near future, and will make three new colour modes available in the video settings menu.

I'm partially colour blind in my right eye, my left eye is fine. So this wouldn't be much use to me, but I do have a friend who is colour blind.

Anyone else suffer from this condition? Will this make a change to you?

I don't suffer from being colourblind or know anyone that will, genuinely confused as to why they're bothering to implement this on a game which is fairly old and doesn't get a whole lot of attention anymore? I read the article and it says its not a mod, why are Gearbox bothering with this?

Because they are beating a dead horse with this game. Its also GearBox's flagship franchise so they keep dumping resources into it. I think its silly. I stopped with Borderlands a while ago (though I do need to get back into it).

I did a 4 player, and one of the people was colorblind, and had trouble determining how good a weapon was, and as a result didn't have many good weapons. I felt bad for him, and gave him some of mine. However, this game isn't as active, so this update is pointless now. Might have been good like 6 months ago.

Interesting, but do colour blind gamers have a problem with games generally? I've never actually heard of any complaints in this area so I'm not sure if it's something that's needed. I mean I might be wrong but is it wasted development that could go into making the game better in other ways?

Yep. Take CoD for example. Red and Green to people who suffer from being colour blind look very similar, so you can't tell what team a person is on.
