Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel announced!

I don't know about you guys but I am extremely excited for this one!

Gearbox Software have announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Coming to only Xbox 360, PS3 and PC (sorry guys, no next gen for this title), this title is set within the 5 year gap between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and will introduce four new characters - Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha and Claptrap. Yep, I said Claptrap. He will be a playable character/class. How awesome, right? Even more, the game will take players to the moon, there will be jetpacks, laser guns, ice guns, and much much more. And don't expect this to me a "extension" of the previous title - this is a full fledged new chapter in the series.

The game will be out later in 2014.

As for why it is not coming to next-gen consoles: "“If you imagine where that demand lives, it lives on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. We don’t know to what extent demand will live on next-gen. I imagine over time, maybe by the time we get to third or fourth Christmas there’ll be a big enough install base on next-gen consoles" - Randy Pitchford

So what do you think guys?

EDIT: And now we get the first trailer/footage for it :)

I'm definitely interested, but the game looks awfully similar to Borderlands 2, so it doesn't look at all like a full fledged new entry. I might be wrong though.

Anyway, great title. I love their humor. :D

I dunno how I feel about this to be honest. I mean, it seems to be centering on Jack, only this time we get even more backstory. It seems like it might undo all the horrible things he did in Borderlands 2 by making him to be an even more sympathetic character...I dunno, I'll probably pick it up though. I'm always on board for Borderlands.

Naw, if anything this might show his rise to power... which means we might see him being even MORE of a jerk than he already was! Well, we'll have to see. You might be right, since we know SOMETHING happened with his wife and we might get to find that out in this game.

Regardless, it looks great but I have one complaint: no Krieg or Gunzerker???? Those two are still my favorite classes by faaaaaaaaaar :c

Though the 4 new character sound much more unique than the main 4 of BL2 (since the main 4 of BL2 were similar to the 4 in BL1) so that's good. Really want to see more of the characters since the only one I've seen (Athena, I think? Girl with a shield) doesn't interest me as much.

Mmm, the characters in the sequel seemed to be 'Here is more of the guys you had before', although I don't think there was an equivalent of Zero in the first game was there? Not sure as I haven't gotten around to playing it myself, even though I'm loving the second game in the series.

Hmmm, this does look pretty interesting. I'm not particularly wow'ed or very hyped but I enjoyed Borderlands 2 and will probably play this.

Zero is basically Mordecai with a weaker version of Lilith's action skill, really. Though I think Zero can't specialize on pistols like Mordecai, but their main thing is sniping, though Zero is also great at melee with the proper build.

Axton is totally Roland, though. Like, really, if anything the main difference is that Axton's turrent is more about destroying stuff (slag, rockets, double turret, nuke) while as Roland's was support (health and ammo regen to all nearby players) Maya is a Siren like Lilith too and they both specialize in elemental weapons but they play vastly differently (Lilith is extremely aggressive while as Maya is more like support).

Salvador is probably the most original and unique of the main 4 in BL2, though he's obviously based on the berserker archetype he shares with Brick but Brick was Melee while as Salvador has dual-wielding.

So there's that. They're different, more or less, but they still are "more of the same". Gaige is completely unique. I guess Krieg could be compared to Brick, their action skills both ditch guns for melee... but Brick's melee was weak and Krieg is a GOD at melee. Krieg can also specialize on fire in many ridiculous ways!

The 4 new characters for this Pre-Sequel definitely sound like they will be much more unique, like Gaige, though I have a feeling that Fragtrap might be a mix of the Commando and Gunzerker while Wilhelm will use turrets (like the Commandos). The Sheriff (I forget what they're calling her now) could possibly specialize in revolvers and pistols but maybe snipers too.

To be honest, I totally forgot that Mordecei was an original game character, and not just another NPC. Kind of silly considering how close the others are to him. But yeah it seems like you might be right with the predictions of how the new characters will play. I'll probably go for the Sheriff if you're right in your predictions.

Yeah I see what you mean. I'm just thinking that they'll have to develop on his backstory, which we already know has some sympathetic stuff in it. I mean, it'll be good to expand the universe and stuff, but at the same time it sort of reasons why he's such a jerk.

Thank you for the great summary of the game, I am currently playing Borderland 2 and I am having a blast. Hopefully by the time this game comes out I would have finished all I have needed with the previous Borderlands.

No way, we can play as Claptrap?! That is so awesome! I had no idea this game would ever be a thing, but here it is! I am so excited.

Yeah, still wondering what his action skill will be like. Could be a Hyperion turret, making him fit the role of the Commando, but Wilhelm looks like he could fit the commando role too... really wanna hear more, I only know Athena's really unique action skill.

I've been playing Borderlands 2 on Vita and heard that the Pre-Sequel might get a Vita port if BL2Vita does well. I really hope it does well enough!

I'm glad to hear this series is continuing. I haven't played Borderlands 2, and I'm pretty close to beating the original, so it'll be a while before I play this game.

Usually when a new game for a series comes out, the previous titles will be cheaper, which is good news for me.

Keep an eye out for GotY edition, that DLC is totally worth it. Dunno about consoles, but it constantly goes under $20 on PC.

My prediction. When you play online, 3 out of 4 people on your team will be Claptrap ;)

Just thought I'd add in here that the release date has been announced as October 14 in North America, October 17 everywhere else :)

Seriously cannot wait for this, easily my most anticipated game of 2014.

EDIT: Here's a new trailer :D
