Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Is "Not the Same Old Call of Duty"

Well with all the hype on this game and it being the first 'true' new gen CoD game Sledgehammer games have a lot to live up too.
I look forward to this one,I really hope they deliver.
Here's some quotes as to why it's not the same old Call of Duty.

Gamespot said:
This year's Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, is "not the same old Call of Duty," according to developer Sledgehammer Games. Speaking with VentureBeat, studio co-founder Michael Condrey laid out the reasons why this year's game will be one to remember.

"With three years and a new engine and a new generation of hardware and a new brand, you'll see this is not the same old Call of Duty," Condrey said. "We had the people, the resources, and the time."

Condrey's boasting about the game didn't end there, however. "This has the scale and the scope of the equivalent of four Hollywood movies in it," he said. "It has hundreds of hours of multiplayer gameplay. It has full cooperative mode. It takes an army of industry vets to create this kind of content."

I'll believe it when I see it. That's the same thing that EA has been saying about Madden every year. I know there are different reasons to justify that it is new and different, but for those annual cash cow games I have to see it to believe it.

True. But after the disappointment of Ghosts 'surely' it's gotta be better right? Sledgehammers first CoD game (apart from helping IW on previous game)
I look forward to how this ones turns out.

So it is not the same because its on a new hardware, got it.

Sounds like (the old) Call of Duty to me...

I look forward to it but I'm guarded about the series. Each year they claim its a new fresh experience and.....well....its not really new, more rehashing old stuff and putting patches on an already threadbare blanket.

Okay that was harsh but I'm still really guarded about AW.

I am totally done with this franchise, Ghost was the last straw!! I will only contemplate buying a COD again when Treyarch are the developers.

I am expecting another Ghost seeing Sledgehammer helped on that poor excuse for a game.

This is exactly the trick Madden has pulled more than once... New engine or tackling physics or whatever else and it always ends up.... Wait for it.... Exactly the same experience.

Was Ghosts a disappointment as far as sales? That's the only thing that would spur change I think. Maybe I'm being too cynical.

Agreed.

Does anyone else think this looks like its from Mass Effect?

Mass Effect was an awesome game, And perhaps the best franchise from the last gen consoles.

Noticed a few now having a Mass Effect type feel, Destiny just seems to be going all out ripping any other game off lol.

I'll never understand this. Mechanically Ghosts blows BO2 away. Its the community, campy streaks, and campy maps that make Ghosts bad.

BO2 was so broken mechanically that it was comical. Quick scopers AIM assisting away, tac inserting, OP streaks like the swarm that just drove everyone out of a lobby, horrible hit detection, shotguns... ETC

At least the gun fights in Ghosts are actually won based on who shoots first.

I hope AW is more like Ghosts mechanically, but has normal UAV, and better maps.

To be fair, Bungie is at least ripping themselves off (i.e. cloning Halo and the Halo experience (kind of). But, alas, a different topic for a different day!)

But doesn't a "who shoots first" mechanic promote camping? It seems like a double-edged sword.

You might think that, but there's actually a peekers advantage in most fps games, because of lag. Except when you play on LAN, there's always a little delay between the camper seeing you and you actually being where he thinks you are. So prefiring usual camp-spots will help a lot.

Camping or no camping, if you've got the better Internet connection, then you can pretty much beat anyone with a lesser connection...assuming you know how to play a given game to reap that advantage. The CoD games are decent with hit detection, but nobody is ever going to be happy about dying, whether they shoot first or don't, or whether they got killed by a camper or not.

Counter-Strike begs to differ, haha. Killing lagging players is, ugh, let us not go there. But you are right, no one likes dying--especially Call of Duty players. I watched this video of this guy who was getting mad at players for doing the exact same thing he was doing; I was not sure if he was serious or not.

Even if he was serious or not, there are plenty of gamers who actually do get angry at others for using similar tactics. I find it more amusing than anything else. The best games allow workarounds for gameplay tactics, such as camping or spawn trapping, and the best players will adapt to these tactics and get around them. Others will just rage endlessly, and we'll get to see the funny videos. :]

They say that every year but in different words, and we all expect it to be good and original but we end up disappointed...

I hope that this is true but at the same time it wouldn't be the first time a Cod developer lied to get people to buy their game. I will still get it though because Call of Duty is near and dear to my heart and even though I might not like the game compared to other cods it is still a good game not comparing it to other cods.

Here is the thing. CoD devs do not have to lie in order to sell their product. I mean they certainly do stretch the truth and of course lie outright, but they do not have to. No matter how trite a new CoD is, it will always sell.

Example: Yourself

You want something new from CoD, but... will still buy it even though you expect the same. Then you will complain about it being a) too much like the other CoD titles, or b) not enough like them. At the end of the day, the developers will make money because you buy a game that you are certain will be exactly like the one last year, just only slightly different. You will nitpick those differences and tell the Internet how they, the devs, have hurt CoD and how you want things to go back to how they were. Then you'll complain about how CoD never changes. Its a cycle. A paradox. I don't get it.

"You" of course is used in the universal sense here, this is not a personal attack.
