Can I play a friend online in a season mode

It depends on the game you choose to play. In FIFA, it supports online services and thereforth you can play online with your friends or strangers all over the world.

I know I could play online but I don't want to play with a random stranger. I'd like to play with one individual friend and play a season with the same person. Currently isnt it something where you have to go on a lobby and its hard to pick a specific user?

Yeah, it would be easier to answer that question if you could name the title you want to play. I guess it's Fifa. Anyone knows that?

We need more clarification on the details of the game. Is English your first language, original poster? I know that Madden allows online franchises for multiple players where you can play against other people in "regular season games". What sport are we talking here?

Almost every game supports online multiplayer these days. It should be possible with the sports game you are referring too.

Which in some cases ends up being a bad thing, because developers make a online multiplayer component, but forget about the local multiplayer. They seem to be forgetting that not everyone has friends with consoles, and local multiplayer is the best.

It's a pretty safe bet that you'll be able to play against your buddy. I mean, the vast majority of games with an online component have the ability to start up a private match between you and a friend. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I was hoping to play on the same team as my buddy for football and hockey and play a full season on the same team. English is my first language. I would assume this is possible, but have only heard of people playing either with random people or against friends.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can play on the same team as your friend in a franchise mode. I'm not sure if you can do that online with a friend though. It depends on what version of the game that you buy. Each one might vary.

Yep, almost every big time sports game nowadays has online functionality. Madden for example, you can invite your friends to play a game with you and they have lobbies setup where you can find matches against the top ranked players if you'd like. Madden has made a big change in recent years towards Connected Careers, which is basically franchise mode on steroids. You can now play with 1 other person, or 31 other people to have a great season. But to answer your question, no doubt about it you'll be able to play your friends in a season of any sports game of your choosing.

Most games will probably have the option to find and play with specific people. Still, localized multi-player would be better if they would work on it. The only real bonus of online play with friends is that you have separate monitors so your opponent can't see your plays or what rock you're about to snipe them from.
