Can't find a game that does it for me

Hi everyone

Before I start, I should say I'm not a massive gamer and don't know all the acronyms for gaming so please answer like you're explaining to a hermit lol. That's not to say I don't know what I like when it comes to games.

I have 3 teenage kids and became a bit addicted to the Elder Scrolls franchise after moving on from Fable and the likes. Love love love Skyrim. I don't *do* PC gaming so when I heard the next ES would be for PS4 and PC we decided to upgrade from the PS3. What a waste it has been so far. We only forked out for it on the promise of ESO and Drive Club, the latter was meant to be out at the time of our purchase then didn't come out and now the same has happened with ESO. We've now been sat for months with essentially an expensive Netflix player. I can tell that when there finally is a game I like and/or one my hubby can play (he only really plays 'realistic' track based racing games due to severe sight problems) then it'll be well worth it but I thought I'd join up and see if I've missed anything that I'd enjoy.

What I'm looking for is an open world RPG with character creation beyond just male/female, and preferably able to be played in 1st person (or close 3rd person, not miles away at a push). It doesn't have to be magic and a weapon although I do like that. I also like being able to level up the skills I want to rather than general level ups.

All the games I've found so far fit some but not all and the criteria they don't fit is a deal breaker (sorry, just don't enjoy playing as a set character for example, or having to follow a story - what I love is being able to make a character fairly unique and to wander and do any quests at my own pace).

I figured here would be a good place to find out if there's essentially a Skyrim alternative that isn't going to cost me £9 a month (the reviews I've had off PC gaming friends are that ESO is expensive for the quality) and is either out already or soon to be released.

On a side note when my son bought COD Ghosts for PS3, all we had to do was pay a tenner for an upgrade for PS4, why won't they make this possible for the types of games I like :(

Thanks

Kathy

I would say Witcher 3 is your best bet, with an open dynamic world and awesome combat. Mount and blade: Warband is a bit old, but it's an amazing and addicting game that will keep you entertained for hours and hours. It's strategy, but PC exclusive.

If you're looking for a more Fantasy oriented game, here's the game you're looking for...It's called the Witcher 3, and it's a PC Exclusive, and it says it has more exploration and quests than all the Elder Scrolls combined, which is a pretty bold claim.

Of course, there's also Destiny, and open world, futuristic MMORPG with a single payment fee, and Guild Wars 2, which is a MMo similar to World of Warcraft, but no monthly fee.

And how can I forget Fallout 3? I'll leave you to decide whether you want to play the best game ever made, and it's exactly what you want, along with Far Cry 3 and 4, since they also have massive worlds and exploration with tons of RPG aspects, just without the generic magic aspects.

i would say get the crew, also get diablo. try to play it with your family.

Surprisingly not a lot of open world RPGs out right now. There is a multiplayer RPG that's free to play called DC Universe Online. Your kids might enjoy it. I think the big RPG that's coming is the Witcher 3 that is NOT a PC exclusive game (like what yosostupid said). It's available for PS4 but is due February of next year which is quite a long wait. Destiny came out today and is a shooter but also has open world RPG elements (leveling up skills, character customization, powers, etc.).

There won't be anything like you want for some time.. PS4 is a relatively new console and sony is always slow to get new titles onto their newest console..

You might have to wait a while buddy. I mean it's pretty early on, the consoles are just barely a year old so it's normal to not have the games that you want. I would go for The Witcher 3 for you, you can also try your hand at Destiny since it's already out now.

Its sad that there are so many titles that would satisfy this request on PC. Someone mentioned Diablo 3 but no way that it is anywhere near what the OP is asking for in his original plea. It's early in the consoles life cycle but to be honest there really aren't that many known games currently in development that would fit your criteria.

she likes skyrim and fable red, im sure she will like diablo

It's gonna be a while before these new games are going to come out but when it does, deffinetly get the division. It's just what your looking for or assassins creed unity. It's more open world now with a lot of character customization

I don't really think it's a console problem if someone has such a small niche need and such a tiny limitation for what they want.

I am sure we all would love a certain game or feature, but we did, or atleast I did, our research before purchashing knowing what the PS4 offered and we play what it offers.
