Yes, I was reminded a few days ago about this. I really don't understand all this business of changing clocks. It irritates me as I can spend anything up to an hour changing everything.
I have one of those large 'Route 66' clocks up on the wall which is an absolute nightmare to hang back up. Honestly, I can be there sliding the back of it around on the nail for a couple of minutes before it falls back onto it. My DVD/Cassette combi player requires six different steps just to change the clock (it's got no automatic change feature) that I always need to dig out the instructions for. My radio is similar. I have a new car this year so I don't know if this changes automatically or not. It's very similar to my old one (basically just an updated version) and that took me over two years before I figured out how to activate it's auto feature – which ironically the handbook claimed it didn't have. I found it purely by accident. Before that, I had to dig out the manual for that and go through about ten different steps to do it manually. Then there's the watches I own. I can guarantee there will be at least one I'll miss which will remain an hour fast for another month or two until I wear it again… I don't think my PS3 changes either as it's never been hooked up to the internet. That's just my own stuff. Then there's the clocks elsewhere in the house, including the one on the cooker.
The only things I have that I know change automatically is my laptop and (I think) my iPod.
Whilst we get an extra hour in bed on Sunday with the October change, I've actually slept straight through the last two. I've woke up at 9am thinking it's actually 8am – when it's dawned on me that I've changed the clocks the afternoon before… Not just that, it means not only do we get up to go to work in the dark (as we've been doing at the moment – it'll be just as dark again in another few weeks), we're getting home in the dark. If you spend your working days inside as I do, you never see any daylight unless it's the weekend.
The dark evenings don't so much bother me too much – it's the morning's which kill me. I never used to suffer from whatever this is in my teens, but it's really started knocking me about in my later 20's. You feel as though you're getting up in the middle of the night and it can knock me about for most of the day to the point where I just feel constantly lethargic. I don't really 'wake up' until there's some sort of light outside. As a result, until the clocks go forward again, you'll be lucky to get much more than a grunt out of me until about 9:00-9:30am…
If we had to change the clocks and I had my way, they'd be going back two hours and not just one.
Roll on next summer!
