DayZ May Become PS4 console exclusive

DayZ, a standalone mod for Arma 2, may become yet another console exclusive for PlayStation 4 and once again it’s Microsoft’s restrictive publishing rules that have gained a win for Sony.

“We’re happy to see DayZ on any console but there is a… I guess one problem,” creator Dean Hall told Edge, “The console needs to not charge for us to do updates and it needs to be indie title friendly.”

Dean was also asked if the two console giants were still charging developers a fee for releasing patches and bug fixes.

“As far as I’m aware, Microsoft is, Sony’s not. And Sony allows you to self-publish. But who knows?”

“Maybe Microsoft will change. From our perspective, we need self-publishing because DayZ would be a great digital download title.”

What do you guys think about it? I'm very happy to finally have a shooter simulator in consoles, I played several hours of it on the pc and altough you have to be kinda pacient, since it is a low paced game, it's really fun if you organize some events with your friends.

I just hope there will be a co-op part to the game. I would just prefer venturing around the map with friends. I only ever played DayZ on computer years ago, was too competitive for my liking.

DayZ could be competitive at times. It was anywhere near as terrible as WarZ, but it progress could be hindered often. A local multiplayer would work great for this kind of game.

WarZ was awful for that. Players took it and made it an open world FPS in the same way players took SSBB and made it into your run of the mill 2D fighter online.

I can't wait to play this, I've only had the opportunity to play on the computer but I liked DayZ for the most part. It's substantially frustrating when other people kill you off for your stuff but if you have the chance to play with a couple of friends its awesome. Hopefully they'll add that feature to the PS4 version if it happens!

WarZ has nothing to do with DayZ, WarZ was just some piece of shit game which tried to confuse people with its title. Damn thing had people from BIG RIGS working on it.

Regardless, DayZ really sounds damn interesting. I wish I had a good connection, I would definitely grab it for PC ASAP then...

I remember when Microsoft was totally supportive of Indie titles, that quickly changed when the release of Xbox One happened - they have also had lots of hidden fees though, such as fees for updates, releases etc, and not being able to sell any DLC of any kind.

Well, I hope that this game helps them sell PS4 even better. I have heard that PS4 is already outselling Xbox One by more than 3:1 ratio.

It would become a fully developed game. Just like Counter Strike started as a mod for half life and then eventually came out as a full retail release.

Oh man. I had a great group I used to play DayZ with almost everyday and it was lots of fun.
Having a full release on the PS4 would make my day.
Someone also recently mentioned a PS4 game called H1Z1 that looked really similar.
Can't wait to see what there is to come!
