Destiny "Alpha" impressions!

So go ahead and fee free to share your thoughts on the "Alpha" of Destiny (if you were able to get in that is)

So far it has surprised me quite a bit. As I said earlier on another post, I didn't have any anticipation for this game. But after playing the "campaign" side of it, I was completely surprised. It runs very good, looks very good although I'm sure it will look twice as good once it releases and I've been having quite a good time. If I could compare it to anything, I would say it's a cross between Halo, Borderlands and a little bit of Mass Effect. All great things.

Now the multiplayer itself gets high praise from me. I had an absolute blast playing it so far!

Anyways, over to you guys :)

I agree about mass effect and Halo. The graphics are amazing so far. The little ship/bike thing is hard to ride hahaha. Also I only played the campaign though, I'll try the online tonight and see how that is. So far the game is great!

I have this downloading at the moment. I'm not too sure what to expect. I usually don't really like shooters. Let's see how it goes.

I've been blown away by the game personally. I do think however it needs to have in game tutorials.

Agreed. There was that message at the beginning that said to go to their website for details, but hopefully they have tutorials in the full game.

I would think when the full game releases the tutorials will be in the game. Would be rather silly if they didn't.

One thing I forgot to mention is I love the bike. Makes me feel like a bad-ass lol.

Yes but I don't think the website had tutorials or anything. It was just for asking questions and also giving bug reports or feedback.

Yes me too :D

I've put in 2 or 3 hours so far.

This game is doing a lot of stuff right, and I've really enjoyed the time I've spent with it so far. I feel like this may end up falling into the same catagory that Watch Dogs did. It overall seems to be a very good game, but I don't think I've seen anything groundbreaking yet.

Thay being said I'm yet to attempt the raid and I've heard good things about it. I'll report back after that.

Hmm generally positive reviews it seems. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the story. That's what Bungie is really good at and I hope they take advantage of telling a compelling story in a new universe. Gameplay wise though, it looks boring. Haven't played the alpha though so I'm just spewing crap out my bum. Just basing it on footage. Still might preorder since I'm not playing a lot of games outside BF4 and 2K14.

I thought that it's actually gong to be another one of those promising MMOs like The Secret World and ESO where they promise you an intriguing lore with action packed gameplay. But after reading Dave's impression on VG247.com, I am convinced that this one is going to be the MMO I would be playing for hours. They are all praising the campaign aspect of this game, so I guess they have put in some efforts to not to make it another kill and fetch type of MMO.

Any reason why?

Its because I don't think as a MMORPG type game it delivers. I thought the class system would mean you'd be skilled in some areas of combat and not others. Let me explain.

As the Titan class you're the monster of your team, you should be able to take large amounts of damage and deal large amounts of damage. I thought that the hunter would be skilled in long range combat and stealth and slowly picking your enemies off and using tools to get around the map without being spotted. I then thought the warlock class would be about using magic over conventional firearms.

However each class apart from their special ability and the mele attacks all the classes feel like they could do each others roles.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I felt. I wished for much more difference with each class. If they did that then I could see the point in the game but as a MMORPG which it does have many RPG elements in the game....I'm not too sure if it pulls this off well.

I think I'm having more fun with Destiny than you are. But I agree with all these points regardless.

Yeah I see what you mean and I agree.
