Destiny V Borderlands.. please discuss :)

Hey chaps,

I've not played much of borderlands but i think i get what it's all about, and no matter where you look , Destiny is being compared to Borderlands.

So i have some questions to those people who have played both games.

Do the Borderland missions have any variation like the Destiny ones don't really ?
Is there really anything differently in the structure of what to do in Borderlands when compared to Destiny.

I know Borderlands has a lot more character and charm about it, would you agree?

I'm interested to here about the differences ( if any ) between the two games and why Borderlands never got grief for " repetitive missions " yet Destiny is. If true i'd like to know what Borderlands has done differently.

From my experience both games are similar in regards to "mission variation". Borderlands has 1000% more character and charm than Destiny, but Borderlands is a game that is as funny as it is fun.

1. ) The missions are for more diverse/varied.
2. ) Yes and no. Essentially you are grinding for loot, but there is far, far, far more loot. When the ads of Borderlands say there are a "bazillion" guns in the game, they are not kidding--seriously they mean it.
3. ) Yes the crux of Borderlands is both its loot and its attitude.
4. ) Borderlands does't feel repetitive because the world is so interesting and amusing to play in. The drops aren't 1/1000000000000000000 but say 1/3. There is also more interesting ways to kill your enemies and engage with them. Further what makes the game feel less repetitive is the world and the characters. Destiny is a game you almost have to play with friends to enjoy. Borderlands is something you can play all on your own and have a great time. However, the more people in your party the harder the game becomes and the greater the loot is--or the odds of finding better gear is higher, I forget.

When it comes down to it, the difference is writing. Borderlands is well-written such that its potentially repetitive missions do not feel repetitive. The game is incredibly meta, it knows what it is and what it wants to be. Destiny, not so much.

Ciel you say the missions in borderlands are more diverse in Borderlands. How so. What do you do other than shoot bosses like all you do in Destiny ?

Borderlands has never appealed to me. I've played the game but I never liked it all that much. I've tried so hard to play 1 and 2 and I never could get into the game.

I've also not played destiny but if you were to offer me a copy of either game I'd pick destiny

Everything Ciel has said is the truth. But I'm a huge Borderlands nut, so I may be a bit biased.

I played the Beta and Alpha for Destiny and I'll be completely honest - I didn't think anything special about it.

Borderlands, on the other hand, is just fantastic as is its sequel (and I cannot wait for The Pre-Sequel next month). The characters are great and often hilarious. The missions are varied. Loot - so much loot! And not useless loot. 75% of loot you grab is actually helpful! The world(s) is fantastic. And again, as Ciel mentioned, you can play on your own and have a great time. Play with friends and it's even better!

They're pretty much the same but Borderlands is more on the funny side of things while Destiny takes itself rather more seriously. But I find Borderlands to be more appealing than Destiny, I think it's because of the characters and the overall presentation of the game. But both games are really good and varied it their own way so I highly suggest you go grab both and see for yourself.

Ciel you say the missions in borderlands are more diverse in Borderlands. How so. What do you do other than shoot bosses like all you do in Destiny ?

Not Ciel but I'll tell you why the mission structure is more diverse in BL. In Destiny, all you really do is: go to point, deploy ghost, defend ghost, repeat, kill boss, end mission. In Borderlands, you have to talk to NPCs, some fetch quests, some quests where you have to shoot at certain objects, some require to you to interact with certain objects like switches, some require you to kill a certain amount of baddies, and some are even vehicle-based. The boss fights in BL are also more varied since they all require different tactics while the bosses in Destiny are simply bullet sponges. Honestly, I loved both games. I found Destiny to have more replay value though (as it should).

I think what ultimately sets both of these games apart is the presentation. Some people liked Borderland's wacky humor and that made them stick with it and have a great time. Destiny is more serious as far a, but its FPS mechanics are better and feel great. Both are solid games but I did find myself enjoying Borderlands a bit more.
