Didn't Sony say they'd stop 'Network Passes' in the light of Playstation Plus.....

Hey,

I believe that Sony did say that they'd be stopping Network Passes (e.g. you get a pass with a game in order to play online) in the light that Playstation Plus was going to be mandatory for gamers to game online. I'm thinking this is maybe due to the fact that the PS3 version came with a pass but Assassins Creed: Black Flag came with a pass that you had to enter in order to play the full game on PS4.

Was it just me who read this or am I thinking of something else?

I don't remember this, but even if Sony said they would stop using Network Passes it might just mean that their 1st party games won't include them. AC4 is 3rd party, Ubisoft, so that might be why it has the pass.

Actually, since release Ubisoft had the pass for free in the Playstation store. It doesn't make a difference that you used yours, its the same exact thing making the codes inside the game case worthless. I used the one from the store and never entered my code.

In other news, locking SP content with a pass is a low blow by Ubisoft.

I think it's more up to the developer/publishers. I do remember Sony saying that first-party exclusives would not require an Online Pass.

I think online passes are dead, the Ubisoft passport was included before online passes are removed. Ubisoft's passport is actually free to download on the PSN now. EA already announced that they are ditching online passes. It's safe to assume that online pass will be a thing of the past on both the Playstation and Xbox.
