Do You Feel The PS2 is Dated?

Yeah i agree with that. I think that if the collection of games for a console are good, then the system will never get dated, regardless of how old it is.

I think that some of the best ps2 games are superior to a lot of current gen games (not graphically of course), but their gameplay is just that great.

It's "dated" as far as math goes, but it's still pretty impressive when you consider its age. There are some pretty advanced 3D games by today's standards, even if the polygon count is not that high and the textures are kinda blurry. Plus it isn't the graphics that matter, it's the gameplay. And there are some classics I wouldn't mind playing for the rest of my life.

In some ways it is dated. Games are larger, longer, and more graphically intense than ever. Thanks to the PS2 and other popular consoles, gaming grew from sub-mainstream to a full blown cultural phenomenon. As a result, more money is being poured into development, and the results are quite staggering. In the end though, you will still get plenty of quality gaming experiences with the PS2, and your enjoyment will rarely be diminished by the appearance.

People on this forum have some funky definitions for things. First, i hear that consoles that released recently are being called NEXT gen, as in upcoming...now youre telling me that something that is 13 years old isnt dated...

13 years have passed, its considered dated...by definition...

Honestly, the PS2 is like an antique to me. Not many games are released for it anymore and all it does it collect dust in the corner. But, maybe after 10 more years, it might be worth something so time will tell!

Hey guys! It's been a while! Whew! I've been kinda busy lately so I haven't had the time to visit the forum. Thankfully my work load slightly got a bit lighter so here I am. Anyways, yes, the PS2 is super dated. The characters now look blocky and there are a lot of jaggies in the graphics. Of course, there are certain exceptions like Okami which still looks amazing, but, it really is dated. I do still play some games for nostalgia's sake but that's it. The PS3 and the PS4 have spoiled me with all their pretty graphics.

By definition (like themarting said), the console is "dated". I don't like the term "dated", it's a term snobs tend to run with to tell you to listen to these new artists, new genres, buy this new device or console, watch this reboot of a series that should've never been touched and so on.

However, it's been over a decade so yeah it's dated. I still prefer PS2 to PS3 and PS4. The console was MONSTER. It was the Bill Goldberg, Taz, or Rhino of the 6th Generation. It ran through everything.

Well said my friend, well said. I don't like "dated" either. I prefer to think of them as legacy or classic (moreso the latter ). The games are still good and to appreciate the latest generation, you have to look at where the games came from and appreciate where they came from. Hell, I still play older games and have a blast doing it. Just remember, those graphics and gameplay were considered revolutionary when they first came out and to call them dated to me just isn't true. They are classic games. Like classic movies or tv shows or even comic books.

That's why I tend to be on the fence about HD remakes and reboots. Its nice to bring an old game out of the dust and let a new generation appreciate and enjoy but its not the same to me. Said this on another thread, I like to play a game how it was intended, which is why all my legacy systems are hooked up.

I talked about this with my friends the other day! I think that the PS2 had some amazing games for the time because they were really original, not graphical of course, but they were very original. I also had much more fun playing PS2 than i have playing PS3 now.

I still game on my PS2 and even the PS1 so I don't think they're dated. These consoles have gems that can't be found on the current generations like Dino Crisis and God Hand. The current gens may have more power but gameplay-wise, there's no competition with the PS2 and PS1.

I still have my PS2 set up and I do still game on my PS2 from time to time. I'd more say its a classic rather than dated.

Nooo. The PS2 is the most sold and successful console in the world! I mean, the last game released was FIFA 14 and that was released in late September, 2013! That was only 3 months ago! The PS2 was released in 2000 and 13 (almost 14) years later, they are still making games for it. So, no the PS2 is not dated. Not even close being dated, by far. It's starting to become retro and classic, but not dated. I still love playing my PS2 as well as the PSX.
