Does vertical make the console hotter?

So I've switched from horizontal to vertical a couple of days ago due to not having enough space anymore. I noticed the fans tend to blew harder when playing games. What I want to know is if it's just me being paranoid or it's indeed this way. I don't have the stand so the bottom vents aren't covered. The guys that tested both, do you notice any difference?

Thanks for pointing out the thread but it didn't have the answer I was looking for. I was hoping that the people that have it vertically can tell me if the PS4 gets hotter because I noticed the fans spin faster now that I'm placing it vertically.

Its meant to be placed horizontally so that's probably optimal for its cooling, that said as long as you're not blocking any intake/outtake fans it should be fine.

It doesn't make mine hotter but my friend has troubles when he sets his up vertically. Sometimes it'll randomly shut off or make weird noises... and none of this happens when he places the PS4 horizontally so he's just gotten used to having it horizontal for the time being. Another friend of mine had the same issues and sent it back and they sent him a new one though.... maybe worth a shot?

When I got got my PS3 I had it horizontal for ages the I decided to place it vertical,had it that way for years,never had a prob.

When I got my PS4 I has it horizontal for a few weeks then I put it vertical,had it that way since a few weeks after launch,no probs for me having it that way.
BUT,,remmeber to if you place it vertical use a stand WITH vents on the bottom. Dont use it vertical without a stand or stand that has no vents,otherwise you will be blocking the vent on the PS4 console.
