DS4 questions

Hi guys. First post.

I have a question or two about the DS4.

I heard from quite a few places now that the DS4 connects wirelessly all the time. And when its connected to the PS4 via USB the USB is only providing power. And that the connection is still handled via Bluetooth.

I don't know if that's an old thing and recent DS4 software updates have changed it. But since it connects to a PC via USB straight its obviously possible to be done.

So if it is always connecting to the PS4 via Bluetooth. Is there a way or setting to force it to connect via USB only.

I dunno but I seriously doubt it ALL controllers connect by USB only, perhaps the official DS4 does I dont know but there are 3rd party controllers already that connect ONLY via USB,dont have wireless connect so....

That's correct. There are third party controllers that do it. I am looking to pad hack a control. And update my fight stick.
And it was researching that process that I found out about the DS4 not being 100% USB when connected to the PS4. And was advised to use an after market controller.

But now I'm curious to know what the DS4 is doing.

I honestly don't care if it connects wirelessly all the time. Why do you want it always to be connected by USB? Connection reasons? And it's definitely possible to have it completely powered through the cable because that is exactly what I do when I use it on my PC :) I'd do it wirelessly on my PC but with my PS4 literally a foot away from my computer, I think it will get very confused ;)

It is because of connection issues. In most games it wont cause an issue. But in fighting games where links can be 1/60th of a second it can mean dropping a combo and losing a match.

The way around it is just strip a 3rd party controller to rebuild my fightstick. Which has to be connected via USB to be legal for tournement play. But the post is more about finding out if anybody knows why this is the case. And if maybe it was just an old issue and newer firmware updtes might have corrected it.

As far as I can tell it is that its a piracy check or something along those lines. Which may have been the issue with earlier 3rd party controllers and USB cross play products like Cronus MAx timming out.
