Duke Nukem founder working on secret PC & PS4 title

But let me ask you this...Do you really care? Is this exciting news to you? Can Scott Miller make a better game than his last one? As long as it's better than the epic mess that was Duke Nukem Forever, I'll check it out. I'm using that term loosely BTW.

The Duke Nukem creator’s involvement was disclosed by a notice on Interceptor Entertainment’s CEO, Frederik Schreiber’s LinkedIn page detailing a new videogame, code-named ‘’Project Ascender’’ – scheduled for release on both PS4 and PC.

Interceptor Entertainment has been responsible for the iOS ports of the original Duke Nukem and its follow-up, Duke Nukem II, as well as the summer title, Rise of the Triads. According to Schreiber’s page ‘’Project Ascender’’ has been in development since September and currently has 19 staff members labouring away on it. Other details are scarce at this current time but we expect an official announcement in the not so distant future.

So, I'll be looking forward to hear more about this "Project Ascender." I'll give anything a shot. What are your thoughts?

Well, I do and I don't care. I mean the original DN was so groundbreaking and original, I would like to see them have a second (third? fourth?) chance to make something that will be successful again.

I'm kind of interested. I'll take aperture7's answer and say some from column A and some from column B.

On a scale of one to ten, I'm like a four on the interested scale in this project. Really depends on what it is exactly.

I liked Duke Nukem, a lot, but I don't think this game can be relevant now, unless they do something really original, and I hope so.

It might not even be Duke Nukem. Any series can be salvaged, it's just a matter of either making it sleek for the current generation or keeping it true to the era it was popular in. That said, 19 person crew doesn't sound like...much at all for PS4 game.

A secret game? If it is going to be a secret it better be worth the wait and worth the secret as well. He better be making a game that will blow other games straight out the water, because if not it will be a waste of a lot of people's money.

If they are working on it then maybe they are trying to improve it than the last time. The first one was epic as mentioned already but they really do need to get it back to it's level of epic-ness. So I both do and don't care.

You know what I want, a good Duke Nukem game because we're owed that. And it would be great to see a release in the series that was worked on consistently by one team for one specific generation. But even if it's not about Duke Nukem, I'm always glad to see more news about the PS4 gettig games.

I'm just hoping it is released in a timely manner unless that becomes Miller's thing: announce that a game is in development and don't see it until 3 or 4 years later.

A good Duke Nukem game would be nice. They're making it more difficult than it should be. Duke Nukem never had much to it, the games were just fun, badass fun.

For me, it is hard to express any real interest in this project given the atrocity that was (and should not have been) Duke Nukem Forever. It is as if they did not put any thought into it and turned what could have been a comical masterpiece into something that just barely makes a game. I have to say, this is not very exciting, but we all make mistakes. It is just sad that they worked several years on this mistake, knowing precisely what they were injecting into it. Hopefully this one does not leave as bad a taste in our mouths.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this is going to be the Duke Nukem that we've wanted for years but I would be fine with a new ip too. Regardless of whether he brings Duke back, I'm wondering if he went away for some reason? I'M surprised that this is such major news has he not been making games?

I wish I had that optimism. I really want for this to be a Duke Nukem that is Duke in spirit and not just game and appearance only.

I really don't know what he has been doing since he's been away. Wikipedia said he created some game company that doesn't make games or publish them. I'm guessing they...come up with ideas?

It's certainly interesting news and I would say that on a scale of 1 to 10 I'm at a pretty reasonable 4. I'm interested but not enough get seriously hyped about it. I would need a lot more details and for me personally being the mind behind Duke Nukem isn't enough to get me pumped. It's not someone saying Miyamoto is working on a new ip because I would be at a full 10.

I'm more curious as to what the different parts of the Dragoonblade Scale of Interest is. I might do a banner for it lol.

More details would really help build interest, though. It's like Mad Max, there was very little out about that. Then the cinematic trailer dropped and it was...still very little to go on.

The thing with the Mad Max trailer is that...I'd get that game even with the little information available. I'd prefer there was more, but the more legendary in status a game the lower the threshold for a bad game. That's why E.T flopped, it was put out right when the movie came out. It's also why most movie games are forgettable, they come out so close to the movie. Mad Max will be based more on the original trilogy than the new movie coming out. Scarface: The World Is Yours is a whatever sequel to Scarface and was great. The Godfather was at minimum decent.

Really a significant amount of time and a studio that knows what its doing needs to come together...or else you get Colonial Marines.
