Favourite retro console?

By retro I mean anything from 6th generation and prior. Personally my first console was a NES and it will always be very dear to me, but I must say I've also been a sucker for the GameCube which had some really cool games; Mario Kart, Animal Crossing , The Zelda games and Sonic adventure 2. I still have my GameCube and I like to take it out every now and then for parties to enjoy some of the classics. Some of the terrible games are also really fun. During New years eve this year I was playing the Universal Studios Theme Park game with a couple of friends and the game was hilariously terrible. We spent an hour walking around picking up trash around the park. The GameCube has some really great classics but also some really funny and terrible games and that's what makes it my favourite retro console.

My favorite actual retro console would have to be the SNES simply because it was the first one I had and used the most. I remeber playing Super Mario World, F-Zero, Ballz 3D, BattleToad and Double Dragon, and etc. If I had to choose a more recent older console then I'd same Game Cube simply because I've probably spent most of my time playing some game on it. Shadow the Hedgehog, Wind Waker, Need for Speed Underground; also I had the gameboy addition to it so I could play my gameboy color and gameboy sp games on it which was great. One of my favorite bad games on the Game Cube would have to be Spongebob's Light's, Camera, Pants! which is a shameful ripoff of Mario Party but I still find it oddly fun.

We owned a NES but never an SNES, and I never really liked video games until I played them on Sega Genesis. I did used to play Mario, Duck Hunt, Excite Bike, Battle City, and Contra, etc. but I never really played them seriously enough to finish any of them, and I never got into the most of the rest of the library like Castlevania, early FF, Megaman, and Metroid which sucks because I've always been left out of those conversations until now. Still, I appreciate having gotten to play Sega games which I think is more suited to my tastes anyway.

Personally, I say the Gamecube. it's not so long, but I loved this console. To me, Nintendo had peaked with this console.
Maybe this is nostalgia.

Then Ninetndo 64 was a great console. It was an important point for Nintendo. This console has really given me a lot of fun when I was young.

Then Playstaion one that gave birth to many licenses. I think the PS4 will be the same as the PS1.

Purely for Nostalgia reasons the Sega Genesis (US) / Sega Mega Drive (EU) is definintely my favourite console, it was a console that I got as a child an I abssolutely loved it from when I first got it.

Nintendo 64. Ocarina of Time makes it my favourite already but there are so much other great games and so many memories it's just awesome. This console will have a special place in my heart forever. Nothing really compares to it.

Sega Genesis of course - Atari sucked and that's why I had so much (literal) penny stock in them. I mean sure Great-Granddaddy of them all, but to be honest it sucked. That said Sega Genesis is my favorite with honorable mention going to the N64. I liked them because of the graphics, the great games, and the fact I didn't have to pay for them. Free makes everything better.

I absolutely loved my Sega Genesis and Sega CD. I had a NES but I just didn't find it as appealing for several reasons...didn't like the controller compared to the sega controller and I didn't really have a lot of games on the system I enjoyed except some Bart Simpson game and Mario. I pretty much enjoyed every game I played on my sega genesis and sega cd...the controller felt more natural in my hands, and the games themselves just seemed better quality. Sonic CD is also a great reason to love the Sega even more. And games like Night Trap (it was sorta cheesy looking back now, but when I was like 5 that game was awesome). And Sewer Shark was just the best...I had a lot of good memories and a lot of fun with those consoles. Some of the best.

Gee, there are too many to list! I adored Gameboy, Dreamcast, NES, Sega Genesis, Atari and SNES. I especially enjoyed playing the original Tetris on Gameboy. I almost typed Gamecube by mistake there. We are almost approaching the point where Gamecube is considered retro. Makes me feel old!

SNES and Dreamcast have to be my favorites though. I especially enjoyed the VMU aspect of Dreamcast. That was so cool to use when picking out football plays in 2k Football! I loved Shenmue, Crazy Taxi and the NFL 2k games. Virtua Tennis was mind blowing for Dreamcast.

I loved playing on the SNES with my brother. There were so many fun games to play on that thing. My brother and I would spend countless hours just playing together. It was good bonding times for me.

As much as I loved the Sega Genesis and the N64, I don't think a retro console has eaten as much of my time as the GameCube. My brothers and I together sported a monstrous library, with titles ranging from sports to sci-fi adventures to RPGs. Even Smash Bros Melee alone has accounted for the most time I've spent on any video game.

I'd vote for the Gameboy SP. There was a ton of shovelware, but so many classic games. Pokemon games, Mario games, Metroid games, Zelda games and Fire Emblem are what I remember fondly.

My favorite is the NES. I have a lot of great memories with this console and I miss the days when gaming was this simple (an yet so difficult at the same time). I really want to pick up an original NES and start collecting some of my favorite games. Actually, one of my favorite NES games was one that everyone else hated -- Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle. Sure, it's simplistic as hell, but it's just a fun little puzzle game. I can't wait to pick up an NES and some of my favorite games, but that'll have to wait until I have more money.

I think calling retro console any hardware after the fourth generation is too much of a stretch. When people talk retro, i usually think about 2d sprites and stuff, so i would definitely go with the Genesis.

Considering that on this site the PS1 is a legacy console I don't think it's much of a stretch. Besides which I personally see anything from the PS2 backwards as retro - so yeah.

The SNES has got to be one of my favorite retro consoles. My parents bought nearly close to 50 games for that console alone, as I was a child back then.

I go so far back with gaming that I actually only consider systems like atari, nes, commodore 64, nes and sega to be retro. I'd consider anything after those to be non-retro or "contemporary"...I'm not really sure if there is a proper word for them but it is not retro.
