FF7 Remake?

In all honesty, why have they yet to make another version of Final Fantasy 7, 8, or 9. Or at the very least make one with a hearty story line again that those PS1 Final Fantasies had. It's quite aggravating not seeing anymore real storyline RPG's come out to the market anymore. All the craze is about the MMO's still, which is unfortunate in my opinion.

Any ideas of any new games or remakes coming out from the FF collection?

Like you, I don't like the direction that Square is headed. I think that they're focusing on the wrong things. They're deviating from the elements that made the Final Fantasy games great in the first place. I also crave for the old formula of the FF games. With regards to the remake, I'm not so sure. There hasn't been any news regarding a remake.

You really can't blame Square Enix for not pursuing remakes of these games. It's a question of making profits and business for SE, and if they are milking FF for the money, that's something that is within their prerogative. But maybe if they will decide to remake some of these games, that is at most a remote possibility.

An FF7 remake would be really nice. If Square Enix decides to do this, then I can assure them that I will be buying this. I have been waiting for a remake ever since I beat the original FF7 back in 2006.

Final Fantasy VII is still fun to play, despite its graphics not aging so well. I downloaded it from the PlayStation network as soon as I bought my PS3 because I had never completed it. The gameplay is still fun and everything, but I don't feel as immersed as I used to because of how dull it looks in comparison to contemporary games. It's not like they can help it, though. I'd rather have them remake Final Fantasy VII (or VIII), without fundamentally changing it, than keep making sloppy games.

I'd love this. I honestly am a more of a FFVIII fan though, since it's the one that really got me into these types of games. I know how popular FF7 is, but I probably wouldn't have tried it out had it been the one I was originally introduced to. I'd love to see a remake of these games, and I'll probably try them all out if released in widescreen.

Me too. I like FF8 a lot more than FF7. Maybe its because I was amazed by the graphics of FF8 at the time. And the CG cinematics. Oh my gawd. They were absolutely fantastic. But I have no problem if the remake FF7 first before FF8. It would give them more time to make 8 even more awesome.

I have yet to play a single FF game, never owned one and none of my friends were into it.
If they remade some of the older ones I might give it a shot because I really don't like the look of the newer ones.
So if anyone on here that has played all or quite a few of them want to recommend some to me I would love to give a good one a try.

Final Fantasy X is coming out for the PS3 as an HD remaster soon.

Anyway, I don't know if I'd want a FF7 remake. Especially if you mean actually remake it into a 3D Final fantasy like the games of today. If they do, they'd need to cut a LOT of content, because I don't think Square has it in them to remake everything and more and not strip things away without taking 10 years like FF15 is taking. It'd be cool, but I don't think its feasibly possible. Thoug I would love if they added a few scenes to flesh stuff out.

They shouldn't make new "versions," only remastered HD titles. If it's worth re-releasing, then it's worth keeping the same as it was.

I'll tell you something. I'm already thinking about what could look like a remake of FF7. It is often said that if we change a few things in a work, it loses its luster.

But if we redo the exact same game, with graphics crazy! The same missions, the same gameplay, the same map but with the graphics of today's play.

What do you think

As long as the essence is the same, why not? I find games with better graphics to be more immersive, anyway. I liked the story of Final Fantasy VII a lot, but I never really felt involved in it like I do contemporary games.

I can see why so many people would love a Final Fantasy VII remake with the graphics of today. From what I hear though, remaking the game would just take too much time and use too many resources, and right now, Square-Enix is definitely not in the position to do so as they went through a rough period with this generation of consoles. I would love to see a FFVII remake but if I don't it's no big deal. Right now, I'm really looking forward to Final Fantasy XV anyway.

A lot of people THINK they want a FF7 graphical update, but I think Sony is right in they feel the support is not there. It's true that FF7 was the most commercially successful FF to date, but Sony was keen to the truth of modern day support when they tested the water with the FF7 re-release, and the sales were barely above 100k downloads. That pretty much confirms their suspicions that the modern generation doesn't care about FF7 or most of the classic RPGs really. Sure, they likely would have had more reception if the remake had the graphics of the PS3 tech demo years ago, but that would be an enormous effort. After all, FF7 wasn't a 3D game it was 3D sprites on 2D prerendered backgrounds. That is to say, you would have to literally make an entire next-gen game from scratch just to satisfy a small population of nostalgic fans from 15 years ago.... not a good investment.

Sony pretty much alluded to it, and I'll say the unpopular truth: FF7 was a generational-defining RPG THEN, but its not NOW, nor would it be even with a graphical update. It's not a big deal anyway, just play the classic. I thought it was funny they remade FF 3/4 into 3D, though.

Why talk about a remake ... ?
Looks like you do not know a new FF7 could destroy the game
If you change a work of art, it will not be a work of art.

If Square Enix decides to make a remake, it should be exactly as before! The difference would be only in the graphics!

And why invest in a remake instead of making a new Final Fantasy.
Personally, I'd like to see a remake in 10 or 16 years. Now there's much more interesting to do!

they're remaking FF10 in HD which will be awesome for PS3. Especially since 10 was my fav. I agree with ^ Pickicool. A remake or alteration could wreck it.

Yes, Square hasn't had much in the Final Fantasy department ever since the merger, where a large section of their employees left, including Hironobu Sackaguchi the EP and Nobou Uematsu the legendary composer. So it really is just because these aren't the same people and they became centered on becoming a mega publishing giant rather then make games. I wonder all the time, where the series would be if the merger had never happened.... *sigh* but i torture myself. I do however feel that most of the stuff they make apart from Final Fantasy is pretty good.

If Square only make it into a HD game, then I think that would work, more so if they can make it look like or even better than the movie. But if the project changed it too much that it may affect the original version then just don't plan anything. It will be a huge disgrace to an epic game.

Sadly I do not think Square would stick 100% true if they did a Final Fantasy VII remake. I can imagine the world map would be completely destroyed and it would be about as linear as Final Fantasy X game play. I personally would not be against a remake at all, but in all honesty I just do not believe it would be done correctly. The story of course would stay the same I am sure, and the areas would look even more detailed and interesting. I think most of the start of the game through Midgar would be good. I do however feel that once you left Midgar, Square would cheat us out of a world map and instead put a bunch of linear roads leading us from one place to another.

However, if they did stay 100% true to the game and not change anything besides graphics, added in some voice overs, and updated how the music sounds I would be happy with a remake. Oh and the ability to use analog on the controller! :)

Sadly I do feel as though a remake may not be as great as everyone would hope it to be. In a way, I would rather see my favorite game remain as is than get remade in a way that I would come to not enjoy the game though.
