FIFA for a non-soccer fan?

I've heard tons of great things about FIFA over the past couple of years, and I've been tempted to buy it. The problem is, I don't really like soccer/futbol much. I don't want it to be a waste of money. I've tried other games people rave about like Football Manager and such, and I've never really gotten into them even though I am also a simulation fanatic. The one thing I have going for me is I also like NBA 2K14, but I don't really like basketball either.

I guess my main question is, if I am not that much a fan of soccer, is this game still worth getting? What's exciting about it enough to pull me in?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks guys.

I can't say I have played very much Fifa either but I would not really suggest it because it seems like the kind of game you really have to get into to like. Maybe I am wrong and it is the perfect game for you but I would suggest seeing if there is a way you can try it out first because it plays so boring to me.

I did not really even enjoy that Mario soccer game and it was pretty damn wacky, maybe I am completely off base here but I would suggest you avoid it until you get a feel for it.

Depends on how you will play it. Will you playing with friends and are they in to it? Or will it be something you will play online or against the CPU ? If online (like most sport games) the sheer competitive nature of you against another person may appeal. I know thats one of the main features that has me hooked,, I rarely play against the CPU and I would say thats where it would differ from the likes of footie manager where you probably do have to be a footie fanatic to get it. Only other thing would be perhaps not being familiar with the rules,,, I had that issue with ice hockey game,, but once I knew what was what I got right into it.

Have a look at the Demo first,, its free and available on the PS. :)

Yes, download the demo, get a feel for it then decide.

Or you could rent the game for a while, or even purchase it and trade it/sell it on ebay if you decide it's not for you.

You might at least enjoy making your own players; choosing your own player names, that kind of thing. Really cant wait to play this online (dont have any online friends into fifa at the moment), but even so, I play it every day.

I don't know...
I enjoy the game because I can play with my favorite clubs and players, and that's what I love this game, the realistic aspect. If you're not a big fan of soccer, maybe you'll not enjoy it properly.
Try the demo first. ;)

Thanks for the comments guys! I didn't even think about trying out the demo. :P I think I'm going to go and give that a shot and see how I like the play feel.

Are there many, if any, simulation features like a career mode in the game? Career for a player, coach, and/or owner?

I'm not really into football either. Over the last couple years I have gotten into it as my friends all play. Takes a while but get addictive. Buy it and build up your skills on the skills tasks

First, Mario soccer was amazing. Second FIFA is really the kind of game that a non soccer fan can enjoy as long as you're playing it with friends. I would never really play it on my own, but with friends it's pretty addictive. It's better that way. Though the single player is fun too, I just prefer playing with other people.

I'll tell you this, Fifa is a grteat game, very enjoyable and the most popular sports game in the world, certainly 1 of EA's flagship titles, but if you were a soccer fan, you'd appreciate it alot more.

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about soccer, I love FIFA. It's so much fun, regardless of whether you know what you're doing or not, kind of like the old Mario Kart games used to be.
