Final Fantasy thread

I didn't see one around so I thought of posting this. I originally got into the series with FF3, now more widely known as 6, and it blew my mind when it came out. To this day its still one of my favorite rpgs ever, though its trumped a bit by Chrono Trigger. 7 is my other favorite game and if we're going to include spinoffs than Final Fantasy Tactics is #2, with 7 at #3. I've enjoyed every single FF game to varying degrees, with the exception of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and FF13. I'm having a hard time really getting excited for 14 because of the low standards and expectations set by 13. FF14 A realm reborn looks pretty fun, though I'm hesitant to drop money on another mmo right before Warlords of Draenor.

I once read a comment stating the theory that everyone's favorite FF is the one they played first, and that certainly is true for me. My first experience was with FF8 and I did love it and I still wouldn't mind replaying it today. Anyway, as for my other FF favorites. I also enjoyed Crisis Core and Dissidia a lot, and I definitely want to replay those too someday.

Ok, I'll admit my greatest gaming shame: I've never played Final Fantasy VII !

I got started on the series with VIII and then afterwards played the older ones on the DS, so I never got VII, it is on Steam so I've been considering getting it but I'm afraid it's just all a big hype-fest, is it really worth putting tons of hours into it?
