Final Fantasy Ultimate Box Collection...a great deal or a huge ripoff

http://www.gamespot.com/news/final-f...ounced-6394062

I have been seeing pieces about this for a few months and now only a week before it's release in Japan, I really have to stand by at scream FOUL and the top of my lungs.

This set is being released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the FF series and contains all the main line FF titles from FF1 through FF13 (FFX-2 and FF13-2 did not make the cut, on the plus side the FF7 version is the international edition). As a standing Idea, I can get behind this but their are at least three MAJOR flaws I see with this collection and I want to hear if others see it the same way.

1) This is NOT a compilation disk for the PS3. I can fully understand if they are not updating the individual games but it's not a remastered set of disks to work on one system. FF1,2,4 through 9 all are on PS1 disks, FF3 is a PSP disk, FF10, 11 and 12 are PS2 disks and FF13 is a PS3 disk (Yes the older FF games are the PS1 versions and no the NEs/SNEs, etc). Considering the modern PS3's do not have reverse playability and even the original models had trouble emulating ps1 games (Example FF8 has serious problems playing on the PS3) Then the buyer of this needs at least 2 systems (and Old PS3 and a PSP) and preferably, 3 systems to run all the games without a problem......You can't tell me these games could not be all put to a couple PS3 disks.

2) Chances are high that if you are a FF fan, you likely own the majority of these games already, there is nothing in this collection that makes me want to get them again when I actually already own these version. (Other then FF7 international, these are the versions that were released back in the day for most of us and I know other expanded FF games were released)

3) The price in Japan for this set is roughly equal to $456 USD.........I can buy ALL of these games separate for less then half that.

So that is my 2 cents right now, I think this is a horrible box set that is not even remotely worth it, what do you think?

Rip off!

You could get all the past games via the Internet. Lol. It's illegal I think but I won't dish out 400 bucks for this collection. Why would they release am uneven set of Final Fantasy collection of games? I can accept the PSP disk but the PS 1? Not a lot of people have functioning PS 1s! If you still have a working PS 2, it would be fine because it plays PS 1 disks perfectly. But again, there's the problem of saving. You need PS 1 memory cards to save. If they bundled the old PS 1 with the collection, I'd buy it. If not, I'd say pass.

You could use the $456 to purchase a new PS4 console plus one new game. There's just no good reason to purchase this bundle unless you're a really eager collector who has much money to spend. Just hold on to your money people.

Well, the PS3 can play PS1 disks, so that is not the issue.

Still, this is a huge, lazy rip-off. I'd rather just buy the games online individually and save some money in the process. That way I also have the choice of what versions to go for.

I mean, i do understand that it would be hard to bring ALL the Final Fantasy games under one console because of how many games there are and in how many consoles. And then, what would they do, release the originals or the remakes? It's too bad, i think that it would be pretty possible to put all the games in about 2 or 3 blu-ray disks.

I use to love the Final Fantasy Series, but now I don't play it as much because it does not entertain me as much. I think that if I was younger I would probably play it a lot more, but I don't know.

That's just scammy there. They could've put in the effort to make them all PS3 compatible. It's like what's the point of getting it/promoting it for the PS3 if you can't play all the games on the PS3? To say I own all the Final Fantasy games--especially the good ones?

I'd rather just add the missing FF games to my collection. I should dust off the first FF and play through it again, that game was epic!

That is a crazy price! I'm already a sucker for having purchased the Final Fantasy games on just about every console/device I have. I have Final Fantasy games on my iPhone, iPad, PS3, PC and even have the old PS1 discs around somewhere. The one thing Square Enix is good at is squeezing cash out of people to rebuy their old games. I need to stop falling into the trap as I guess I'm one of those people that make it so Square Enix can carry on releasing like this, and making a money despite no advantages to the player.

I've never been a big fan of Final Fantasy, so I personally wouldn't give 5 cents for those games. But i'm sure those hardcore Final Fantasy fans wouldn't think it twice. Sometimes if you really like it, it's worth it.

bit of a ripoff I'd say. You can get most of those for fairly cheap if you know where to look (ebay, amazon, thrift stores).
