Final Fantasy X-2

I'm sure many know how beloved Final Fantasy X is, but it's sequel (which happened to be the first direct sequel ever in the Final Fantasy series) doesn't quite get the same love. Did anyone here play this game? I know it was such a change of pace from its predecessor, from the battle system to the fact that you could only control 3 characters for the entire game. Still, I really loved this game, it was great to see a continuation of the story and the battle system was fun as well. Looking forward to the HD release.

I only played for a little while, and I think I returned it. There wasn't anything wrong with it; I think I just wanted a different game at the time. My PS2 died on me before I could play it again, though. The beginning of the game was really weird, though. It felt more like a spin-off than an actual sequel--but like I said, I didn't play much at all.

While this game is chronologically a sequel, it can also be considered a prequel of some sorts to FFX, since the story involves characters prior to Sin, such as Shuyin and Lenne, as well as plots such as the superweapon Vegnagun and the battle between Zanarkand and Bevelle, prior to the coming of Sin. Even Nooj, Baralai, and Gippal, who are important supporting characters in this sequel, are likewise involved in events within FFX. Overall, it's a great game, particularly the new Blitzball mini-game. And you want to get a 100% Completion Rate in order to get the Best Ending, though the Better Ending will suffice.

To be honest, I got bored of the game. It was too girly for my tastes. I purchased the game at a discounted price from a friend. I thought that I would have a blast with the game. I guess I was wrong. Maybe the timing of my purchase was off too. I was a little late to jump into Final Fantasy X-2. Games like Final Fantasy XII already popped up when I got X-2 so I really never had the chance to get to know it better. Maybe if I have the time, I would try to play it again.

I liked this game, but it was different then the love I had for FF X. I'll say this much, I started this game and Yuna is singing and you have access to everything and here I am just saying what the hell is going on. Its a Final Fantasy game what did I expect? The garment grid system was actually good. It was the precursor to FF XIII and FF XIII-2's own battle systems and I enjoy the fast paced combat. Also, it promoted grinding your skills much more in that game and that's just good old fashioned classic RPGing.

The thing about this game is that the story gets harder to figure out. You need to go to so many places to make sure you don't miss a % before going into a story mission. The levels are fun and the fighting is good, but you get bogged down with weird side story stuff before you get to the good things. I don't give a shit if there's a band on my ship and why do we have to spend 90 minutes talking about it and having Yuna find clothes for her concert and then there's a concert but OH SHIT stuff is going on that's cool! Lets just make sure you know Yuna is singing before that though!

Lets get down to brass tacks. The world is hard to figure out because the side quests aren't really spoken of. You have to find them, that means going to every location every time you get open time on your ship before a story mission. That's not bad except you're never sure which places will just be the same and which places will be the silver tuna. You miss something? Screw you, you don't get any other chance and this side story is forever gone and you don't get the true ending, here's ultima weapon hope it kills you.

On the other hand, the side stories are incredibly rewarding and the main story is just this. Yuna doing whatever it takes to find the person she loves. Love is the story and its complicated by so much weird shit that doesn't translate well that its easy to miss. Get this game, and play it for the story/side stories and use a guide and you'll have a rewarding experience otherwise you'll just be traveling around like an idiot wondering how Riku survives any attack since she's basically naked.

I have often heard that this game was not as good as the first FFX.:p
The detail that can disturb too, is that the game revolves around female protagonists.

The story is not as epic as FFX. The positive point is that the combat system has been improved. The increase is much more fun.

I'll buy the HD version which will be released on PS3.;)

I know I made my impression way too quickly on this one. I wouldn't mind playing through both games, actually. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I never got past the final boss on Final Fantasy X. It was just so long, and it took me so long to lose, and I didn't feel like trying again (and now I don't even have the game anymore).

I tried to play FF X-2, as well but after seeing Final Fantasy XII, it just went back to its case. There's nothing really wrong about it, but like the quote above, it's too girly. I adore Rikku and Paine is really cool but I just can't handle more of Yuna. I get that many people really liked her in FFX but one game with her is enough. It also didn't help that Final Fantasy XII overlapped with X-2 and really, if you see XII, there's really no way you'd play the latter again, unless you'd really want to see it to the end.

Actually, I constantly argue that, Jpop overtones aside, this game has the BEST implementation of the class system, even more than Final Fantasy 5. The whole game is a visual overload, and like FF10 there is a lot of content in the game. I wish there was a better quest-tracking method in game, because it was very easy to mess up and NOT get the 100%, but otherwise the challenge of the game was certainly there, and with a good soundtrack and solid gameplay, it was a good game overall. A lot of people may make fun of its light-heartedness, but few people really hate it for being an unplayable game.

Well, aside from that cringe-worthy cutscene at the beginning, the game is pretty much the same as it's predecessor, and unfortunately i could never enjoy it that much, mostly because of the characters and that grid sphere system. But hey, my favorite Final Fantasy is still 8, and most of the people hate it, so maybe i am the one with bad taste.

It was like living inside of a Japanese Pop Concert... and it was brilliant at the same time. The garment grid system was really cool in my opinion and it was a precursor to FF XIII's way of thinking as well. The idea of traveling through these random places and trying to find everything that's changed each time there was a story change was difficult to do and it took so much time. I hated that part but I wanted that 100%.

There were times where I sat there and paused the game and got up and thought wtf am I playing? There were other times where the FF mechanics we've come to love were there and I followed it hard down the rabbit hole. Saddly, I never finished it but i would be willing to play on an emulator using a guide.
