Well, seems GTA V on the new console DOES indeed have a first person mode!

Gamespot said:
The Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V will feature a first-person mode, Rockstar Games confirmed today. This new way to play was previously rumored.

What makes first-person mode feel so unique in GTA V is that it allows you to experience the world of Los Santos and Blaine County--places you probably already know well--from a completely new perspective.
"You're eye-level, down with the people on the street, and as you walk past them, you see them sort of look at you out of the corner of their eye," Nelson said. "All of this stuff existed in the game before--lots of little details."

The shift from third-person to first-person required a significant amount of development work, Nelson said.

"You have to change pretty much everything," he explained. "I mean, if you want to do it right. We have a very solid third-person animation system, but you don't just put the camera down there and expect to see the guns, aim, and shoot. All those animations are new when you switch to first-person, because it all has to be animated to the camera, to make it feel like a proper first-person experience that I think people would expect. All the timings have to be re-evaluated."

Rockstar has gone to great lengths to update GTA V's world with a first-person perspective in mind. For instance, when you sit down in a car, you'll see that everything on your car's dashboard works--the speedometer and rev counter are just two examples. Displays will even show the name of the radio station and song you're listening to--and your character will bob his head to the music. This level of deep detail is featured on every car, boat, and plane in GTA V.
In addition, if you're riding a bike or a helicopter, your character will put on a helmet, which will in turn limit your field of view and suppress ambient noises just like it would in real life.

Really? That looks awesome. Will definitely have to try it out. Be a tad weird at first I am guessing, but still.

That's added a new perspective to it's re-release on the new generation consoles… I'm quite impressed. As I've said about it in the past, if it was coming out simply as it was with marginally improved graphics, I wouldn't consider buying it again. It simply wasn't worth stumping up the money a second time around for almost no difference.

Whilst I appreciate the extra development work with a new first person mode, I still don't think it's worth paying out full launch price again. However, I do accept a first person mode really will make it a different experience over the PS3 version. With this feature now added, it will be something to consider when I do finally upgrade as I was a huge fan of the game (my avatar is a giveaway) – but certainly not at full price.

As and when I do get a PS4, I might give it a punt when I can find one for about £25…

Already had this on pre-order, even though I spent hundreds of hours on the PS3 version and am level 120+ online. I was already willing to get it again just for the more minor upgrades like 30 people sessions online and considerably better graphics, even if it was just to play the online with those improvements. Also because it will be awesome to take advantage of the PS4's streaming capabilities with a game like GTA.

The 1st-person view is really impressive though! I can't believe the attention to detail on everything like the fact that all the meters on the multitude of dashes actually function. They obviously weren't taking any shortcuts with this addition. The way the rain and streets look at night with all the reflections and improved textures, it looks like a whole new game from the 1st person perspective! I'm actually exited to play through the single player again now, all from 1st-person view. This could totally change the online as well, having 1st-person-only sessions for competitive game modes should be a completely different experience. I just hope it plays half as good as it looks from what the videos make it look like, cause it looks awesome.

Hell yeah, this was easily noticeable huh? Especially in the trailer when riding the motorcycle. And agree, the way rain and wet road looked, very nice.
That first person view I think makes the world look a whole lot bigger.
Looking forward to it as well.

Having first person sets the game up nicely as a way to test out the VR system that Sony is working on. I'm a huge fan of first person and think it will be awesome. Online heists and deathmatch, in a first person GTA world, seriously? It's the stuff I've dreamed of for GTA. And they are allowing 30 people to play at once so the races will be huge. I remember the first person view while driving in gta 4. I used to drive around Liberty City in first person, following the rules of the road and admiring the city. Tuesday cant come soon enough!
