Free Driveclub Delayed on PS Plus as Server Problems Continue

Oberon

, , The Enforcer, ,
Well the PS+ Edition has been delayed a little across the US and Europe.

Gamespot said:
Game's director Paul Rustchynsky explained there will be a delay to the free version. Rustchynsky said the delay is necessary because server problems are affecting the game already.

"We are seeing a lot of activity and new social behaviours right now, but unfortunately this is pushing the servers to their absolute limits," he wrote.
"We are sorry if you are having a hard time getting online as we know many of you are. Please be aware that the game will automatically keep trying to connect you. Once you're online, you should have no further problems during your session."

"In order to help all Driveclub players who have the game already, we're temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the My Driveclub app to ease the load and traffic to the servers," he added.
"This should give players a better chance of connecting to the game servers."

Sorry, Sony, I am not going to believe that. Rather than let me have a crack at a (critically underwhelming) game that I am probably going to find boring, you hope I go alleviate the itch by buying the actual game and finding out for myself that way--afterall I really do want to play! Can we just stop this nonsense already? I sat around most of the day waiting... only to be told last minute, now I am paraphrasing words here that were not actually said, "Well our game kind of sucks and if people play the free version they will realize that, so we want them to go buy the game and find out that way so we can at least make a little money here. As such we are delaying the launch."

I wonder how much those sales are going to increase... am I being a little too, I don't know... am I more bothered by this than I should be?

Sigh...

Well, they could just decide to not offer it for free anymore, if that really is the plan.

No way, then they would go back on their word and look bad and to some degree prove that the game was a flop such that they now need to make ends meet by driving up sales. From a marketing perspective it is bad business.

I have to admit I do think you're taking this a little far and I'll explain my reasoning for saying this.

Driveclub Devs and Sony are caught between a rock and hard place because they've got two types of people to deal with. The people who paid £40 for the game and people who paid nothing for the game (well the PS+ subscription but you'll have the cost of that back with the free games) so they've got to judge wisely. Do they allow the problems to continue and get worse when the free members join or do they allow time to adjust the servers and allow the people who paid for the game to get on it and play and play without connection issues. If I had paid for the game and couldn't get on it then the problems were made 10x worse by people who didn't pay for the game came on I'd be kind of pissed.

It makes sense to delay it for those who are just casual racing game players. Because guess what? If you were a driving game enthusiast you would have had this game pre ordered and the only people who'll read this now and buy it will be the people who were on the complete cusp of buying the game in the first place and will enjoy it.

Personally I don't care about this game and yes I'll down load it when its out and play it but I'm not going to feel pissed off because I didn't get it on a date they promised. As long as they keep their original promise and I get to play it then I'll be happy.

Really frustrated like everyone else. Sony and/or Evo Studios should offer refunds. I got lucky and received a refund from Game Stop for Destiny because their network is not stable and didn't work period when I bought it, but now they are telling me they won't give me a refund on Drive Club even though they sold me a brick. I/we shouldn't have to buy and hang on to a non working "should be called beta" game until they contract some smart server engineers to figure their crap out?! They need to make refunds readily available like they do at Nordstroms for example. That's top level customer service and it pays off in business. If refunds were available on opened games, it would hold companies responsible for the quality they put out.

There is always... single player?

If you pay for it and the game is unplayable then for sure it is unacceptable and they should correct it somehow.

But if yu did not pay (like me) and waiting for free version just to give it a try then I just donot care is it on time otr late, I will download it when it is available...

…and this is one of the reasons why I don't get involved with online gaming (or not as of yet, at least)! If it's not a case of slotting in a disc and playing, then it's too much hassle and too much can go wrong. I'm the first to admit that I'm technologically inept, now. Can't we just go back to the good old days where gaming was simple and actually worked? Days where all that was required was any old TV set, the console and the disc (floppy disc or cartridge if you're as old as me). If you want all this multiplayer business, then invite a friend around and hook up a second controller for a split-screen game… This business of connections, servers, logging in… Urgh! …Why?! Just go away…!

I see it pretty much the same way as others. If I was in the position of the developers, my priority would be on the people who have bought the full game. I'd have them up and running first before launching the free version of the game. Sure, I understand that it feels unfair for those waiting for the free version, especially given the game itself has already been delayed for so long, but unfortunately that's just the way business works.

If you don't fancy shelling out full price for it – just do what I do. Sit back, relax and wait for the price to drop to something you'd be more willing to pay. That's pretty much what I plan on doing if I do go ahead and get this… No one forces anyone to buy a new game on or very close to launch day!

should i mention i have Forza Horizon 2 and it's SOOOOO good, works SOOOOO well, for me it's a game of the year contender... ( goes off to hide )

This is probably the first time I have had an ounce of regret with going Sony. I love Forza and like the horizon spinoff. I was hoping Drveclub would help me out but from what I have heard and seen it is just another average racer (with broken servers). I wish a new GT would come out. It might sound trivial but the only thing stopping me from getting both consoles is that I don't want to pay for 2 live subscriptions haha.

Joking aside, i guess as soon as the servers are fixed on Driveclub, we can get a proper idea of the game.

Question, is Drvieclub in short basically the same game as Forza Horizon 2 ? FH2 is about events, championship, freeroam driving, chilling, meeting up with friends and generally just cruising and larking about both on and offline at the touch of a button ( or voice command with the kinect which seems to work really well with this game ) The central theme of FH2 is the social aspect. Your constantly given opportunities to meet, race challenge people on / offline Is driveclub just a series of events ? Is there meant to be a social aspect. Would you say they are both really the same game ?
