Future PS4 firmware update will let you dim DualShock 4's lightbar

While you wont be able to turn it off completely,you will able to dim it.
Good news for some.

An upcoming PlayStation 4 firmware update will allow you dim the lightbar on the DualShock 4 controller. PlayStation president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida revealed the news to journalist Geoff Keighley today the Game Developers Conference.

The next PS4 firmware update is 1.70, which includes an HDCP off option for gameplay capture and a new video editing tool, is due to launch in the coming weeks. It's not clear if the ability to turn off the DualShock 4 lightbar will come through this update or a future update.

Please note that it the article you may read 'turn off lightbar' but its been updated to say 'only dim'.

I think i'm the only person that actually likes the glow from the lightbar... Lol...
Specially while playing multiplayers... It's kinda cool seeing 3 DS 4's all different colors... Not to mention my wife just goes Ape S%#T Bonkers for the purple one... -_-'...

I would like to see a longer battery life so maybe "the dimming" consumes less power, leaving us more battery life...

Regardless, options are always a welcomed thing!

I personally have no problem with it in terms of reflection on TV screen etc (although Im using a lightbar decal now) but any increase in battery life by dimming it would be a plus.

I've really though about adding a decal tho... Maybe adding my PNS_ID or something... They look really slick!

The light bar is okay. It's not needed, it adds so very little to the controller overall, but you know.

Well it is needed when using the camera though.
And the camera is needed I believe when Project Morhpeus comes out

I doubt that. It's only an LED, so it barely uses any power as it is. Taking out the "dual shock" motors would save the most battery. As soon as scuf releases a ps4 model, I plan to buy one with the shock motors.

Turning off would be cool, but dimming, i dont see a point.

Well Sony listened to a degree...it's probably best to just wait for controllers that give you the option to turn it off and dim it. Of course Sony could have where you dim it all the way down without turning it off exactly.

I hadn't even concerned that it could be dimmed all the way without being turned off. I just figured dimmed down enough that the light is faint.

Yeah, I have exactly the same issue. It is really bothersome since I always play my PS4 in the dark even though it is probably more unhealthy for your eyes. With I could disable it completely.
