Game Installing?

I just don't know so I thought I would ask. So games like KZSF are going to be 40gbs to install, but do you have to install a game if you have a hard copy? Or are installs only for digital downloads of games?

Thanks!

Only 3 weeks to go...

You will need to install the games either you have a digital or hard copy, it works just like in the computer but if you have digital copys after 7,5 being download you can start playing while if you have an Hard Copy you can play right way while the PS4 installs the game in the background.

Better start saving some money for an HDD with more then 1TB+.

With the cost of hard drives getting cheaper and cheaper...you are going to see more game installs come around. Hopefully consoles will incorporate solid state when that gets cheaper!

Installing games is not mandatory. From what they mean (as twitter Sushei Yoshida), free 50GB are required to play the game It's like the cache. When edge play, the 50GB is available again.

No installation required if you do not want. I also was afraid when he saw the 47GB.

Thanks for the replies and clarification guys... So that leads me to my next question: should I upgrade my HD to 1+TB right off the bat for future free PS Plus games, etc? Or am I not giving enough credit to the longevity of a 500gb drive? My concern is that I'm not tech savvy enough that I'd feel comfortable cracking open and replacing the HD on my brand new $400.00 toy. What do you think?

I know it's probably a typo, but what do you mean there?

Yeah I'm positive the disc doesn't install the whole game, just files it needs quick access too. Plus the Bluray read speed on the drive is a lot quicker, so this may reduce the amount needed on the HD.

In theory its always better to install games so I can see it being a forced thing in the future. You're faster response times will come from not having to communicate with the disc drive at all. In the future games will be sent on beams of light to consoles, but for now we're using Blue rays though we should have USB 3.0 as the replacement in my opinion

I'm sure installing games to the hard drive will not be mandatory either. I think if the game is big and needs to be installed it will, but seeing as how GTA needed to not be installed for PlayStation makes me believe it will most likely never be needed. It should not be a problem as long as we are purchasing the games.
