Gameplay video showing cardboard boxes in action!

Have you guys seen the new gameplay video yet? It features a recurring item in the series......the multi-purpose cardboard box! And it seems that this time the box will not just be something to hide yourself from the enemies as well.

Personally, I am a bit relieved myself. I know Phantom Pain is considered all serious and dark, and will possibly be the darkest series in the franchise yet, but humor have always been a part of the Metal Gear series. It's nice to know that they are still keeping the humor intact in Phantom Pain as well.

Oh that female model painting box is totally legit :p I would fall for a trick like that too XD

I think it's funny. It's really silly, and it's kinda unnecessary considering all the other tools at your disposal, but it's the same jovial spirit of the series that I love. The soldier and bikini model posters are obviously joking in nature, like the spy's disguises in TF2, and the fact that soldiers don't seem to notice you rocketing out of the side of the box is also amusing.

i have never gotten around to playing a metal gear solid game but i might pick this one up.

Actually, I think it would be better if you start with the older games first. That way this game will be much more enjoyable as you would already familiarize yourself with the gameplay, plot, characters, etc......

I think Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a great starting game for the Metal Gear franchise. Perhaps you can try that one first?

Lucky you......old fans will have to wait in pain and frustration for Phantom Pain, while you get to play the older games for the first time! Maybe if you start with the older games Phantom Pain would already be out by the time you finished all the older games, which means you get to skip the waiting part for the game XD

I received your pm.
Here's a timeline of when all the games took place:

1964 – Snake Eater (PS2, HD for PS3, Vita, Xbox 360)
1970 – Portable Ops (Psp)
1974 – Peace Walker (Psp. HD for PS3 and Xbox 360)
1974/75 – Ground Zeroes (Ps3, Ps4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
1984 – The Phantom Pain (Ps3, Ps4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
1995 – Metal Gear (MSX2)
1999 – Solid Snake (MSX2)
2005 – Metal Gear Solid (Ps)
2007/09 – Sons of Liberty (Ps2)
2014 – Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
2018 – Metal Gear Revengeance (Ps3, Xbox360, Pc)

I recommended Snake eater as the first game because it is also the first game to take place chronologically. And then there's some other older games that I think it's really, really hard to find so it would be better if you pick the games from the newer gaming console.

The games that took place in the 60s,70s, and 80s era starred a soldier with the code name "Naked Snake", and you get to play as "Solid Snake" and "Raiden" in the games that took place in the 90s and 2000s era. Saying more info about them may spoils some major plot point, so I will stop now :p

Maybe you can find some youtube clips to see which one suits your liking?

While these cardboard boxes are a bit too much as it takes the immersion away from the game, I know that this game is not meant to be realistic. I am going to play the shit out of this game when it finally arrives. I just wish that the AI was a bit smarter, but I will take it as it is.
