Games that would make good movies

Admittedly, the track record for video game based movies has been pretty terrible. Uwe Boll's clunkers, the Street Fighter movie, Mario etc were all really terrible. The only half decent movies I can think of were Mortal Kombat and Hitman.

But I think there is a ton of potential in a lot games' story lines for a cinematic adaptation. So, which games do you think would make good movies?

For my money, GTA: Vice City if properly treated has a good movie in there somewhere. Tommy Vercetti's rise to the top seems to have a lot of potential as cinematic gold if touched by someone like a Scorsese. While some might say that the game's open world charm would be lost in a movie but I still think there is potential here.

Another game that has a good movie in it somewhere, is Silent Hill 2. I am not talking about a Silent Hill movie here, that's already been done, but one based on Pyramid Head.
I know its been said, but vice city borrows alot from a lot of mobster movies. Scarface, Goodfellas, Carlitos Way (ken rosenberg is actually a direct rip off of sean penn's David Kleinfeld, the lawyer in Carlitos Way)

All the GTA games have borrowed heavily from movies, thats what makes them so good! As a matter of fact, I noticed a heist scene on GTA V trailers that borrows directly from Heat with Al Pacino, Robert Deniro Val Kilmer and danny terjo (machete)

and the original (the guy on gta even does the whole ear thing.)

Definitely The Last of Us, somebody on YouTube already combines all the cut scenes from the game into a movie so it's almost good enough but I would still want to see it as a feature film made by some big director.
Another game that I can easily see as a movie would be the Fallout series. The concept is brilliant and there's so much a good writer could do with it.
Also Max Payne, it has a story as deep and though provoking as a good movie would have, it's full of action and a little bit of drama.

I think Splinter Cell, at least Chaos Theory, would make a good movie. Of course, who can actually portray Sam Fisher’s demeanor might be a bit difficult though. The game in particular was fitted like a movie and can easily pass off with its stealth and espionage.

Though it might be boring for some if it was all stealth and rarely any aggressive action, but I think it can be pulled off quite well, especially since the game revolved around phenomenon that almost led to another World War. There’s always some grander scheme later on in Splinter Cell games that it would make for a decent build-up of drama.

Oblivion would be grate movie.Elder Scroll IV is one of the best games, large community , and a lot of mods for play, there is plenty materials to make a movie,or even better a TV show!!!

I do think the GTA series would make a good movie. I mean, you can basically do anything you want with it. You don't have to follow a story of the games. Instead, make your own story but base it on San Andreas and reference streets, cars, characters, etc. I love Metal Gear Solid so... yeah they're already working on an MGS movie but IF done right, it will be an awesome movie.

Please Hollywood, don't screw up MGS. Don't do what you did to Resident Evil. :O

The Warcraft series definitely deserves a movie (and if Blizzcon is to be believed, it's eventually getting one). Things like Fallout or Half Life also have tons of potential. Oh man, just imagine a post-apocalyptic series based on the FO universe. I'd totally watch it over The Walking Dead.

I would love to see a Max Payne movie.

There was a movie a couple of years ago that i cant remember the name of. It had Jessica Alba in it and was an overall dark movie. I think that tone would be great for a Max Payne film.

Another game that would make a great movie would be Bioshock. Maybe not the story line the game puts you through but the events leading up to the first bioshock.

Games are great because of medium they're made in. The experience can not be duplicated for a movie. Its like reading a book and then seeing a movie based off it.

I mentioned it before with Assassin's Creed 4, but I feel that games and comics would be better as TV series. You can remain true/very tight to the source material than a movie which will sometimes establish its own canon (see the Marvel Movie Universe). Given the missions and all of that in the games, a TV series could properly pace it across seasons.

A movie is like small package, sunset flip, get your shit in, and get out the ring.

GTA had a movie. It was called Don't Be a Menace To Society, Carlito's Way, Boys In The Hood, Scarface, and New Jack City. Now a GTA TV series would be tremendous. It would run for awhile given that the series has a defined timeline of events.
