Have you ever cried during a video game?

Maybe you were moved to tears by a sad (or even happy!) moment in the story. Perhaps you lost a save file containing hundreds of hours of play. Did you just get so upset at losing over and over that you broke down? Or have you played a game so bad that you despaired for humanity?

I've never cried, but a few stories have been quite touching. The 'Tales of' games often have their moments, and of course FFVII (but I was more shocked than anything else).

I don't get too emotional about games that I would cry, but I haven't played The Walking Dead or Heavy Rain yet so who knows. My friends say that those are probably the saddest, darkest games ever. I guess games just don't feel personal enough to make me feel that way.

Playing with my friends is usually very emotional, and we don't even bet money or anything serious, which is not our characteristic because we love to gamble. We love playing versus games and the excitement of almost losing and making a comeback is enough to make us all shout in excitement and in celebration of victory.

I once burst in to tears when Heihachi from Tekken pounded my head in. :(

Not really, haha I'm joking I've never cried during a game, however it used to be a bit upsetting when I was younger,
and had completed a game quicker than I expected to.

Final Fantasy 10, I was younger and a bit more emotional. When you dive into a video game, you can't help but seriously get into it, a lot. seriously, tidus was an awesome character. He seemed weak but he was a strong dude and was in love. Stupid love, why you gotta be so powerful :X

Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The ending of MGS1 where (SPOILERS) Meryl Dies made me bawl like a baby (I was 9 years old though) playing it years later, seeing Otacon cry when Sniper Wolf died was heart breaking. I agree with bbg though, FF10 was excellent!

I have never dropped a tear while playing a video game lol. I just can't see myself doing so, even after competitions when I have lost a great amount of money. Usually it is more anger than it is sadness.

I wasn't too old when I played Legends of Dragoon, I had emotional depth with that game, I was so connected and so into it that a lot of the things that happened in the story made me happy then sad then teary then confused. That game was amazing and it's too damn bad they do not bring it back and make it awesome. The combo system was insanely genius!

I often move to tears by sad and happy moments in the story. Once In my childhood; I was watching a horror movie when I saw an alien near to the hero and try to kill him; I get horrified and start crying. I often start crying when watching or reading heart touching series. Same as stories I am sensitive about games and feel same as I am the real play in the game.

Can't remember actually crying because of a video game until I played The Last of Us. SPOILER WARNING (But not really since it's the first part of the game.) When Joel is running through the town after it's going to hell with his daughter Sara, and the military guy has to dispatch them, he fires a few shots and Joel screams out. At this point you're so immersed into the story that you almost forget he's carrying his daughter. It isn't until you hear the brother comment about his daughter that the camera pans over and you see that she's been shot. Now, this wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING voice acting and the Musical Score. As Joel's holding his daughter and trying his best as a father to tell her everything's going to be ok, you actually watch as the life fades from her body. It was such a powerful scene that I actually started crying and had to put down the controller to take a second to gather myself. It's a strange feeling the first time that happens. The rest of the game was just as amazing, and it was easily one of the best purchases I've ever made for my PS3.

Now why would you cry during a video game? I don't think any video game is touching enough to move someone to such an extent. Ok maybe you were too frustrated that the final boss you had been trying to kill for the 100th time killed you again and you had no option but to break down and cry. Other than that I can see no reason.

There have been games that have made me cry or at least end up with a cluster of emotions. I guess if people can’t comprehend how a person would get sentimental over a video game, they’re either playing games full of action, or they’re missing the underlying concepts behind the game’s story.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, I used to think that The Boss was someone that just (spoilers) seemed to defect from her country for no reason. But in the end, she was still loyal to her country and carried on an image that she was a terrorist even though she was the hero in the end. For someone to carry that title and be labeled as something they weren’t, it really made me think how some of the true heroes are the ones that work in the shadows.

Another game was Xenoblade Chronicles, and even though some of the plots with friendship and all that was obvious, that game made me emotional at times. The ending (spoilers) where everything seemed to be the product of a simulation program kind of bothered me though. But it made me wonder if the developers and the creators of the game were trying to get into some kind of Lucid Dreaming motif where life is either a dream or a simulation.

How people reconciled with each other in the game despite of their background and cultural differences and so many factors makes me go through a nostalgia trip of other games liked it in the past whenever I play it.

The end of Kingdom Hearts really pushed me to the verge. That ending combined with Simple and Clean playing really made me want to tear up a little.

Usually when I get stuck on a game, I don't break down and cry. But instead I'll just stop playing for awhile. Video games don't tend to have as good as stories as movies or TV shows. But that's probably because you play a character for most of the time.

The end of Halo 3 was pretty sad for me because I played all those games when I was younger and it was the end of Master Chief's story. (Until 343 continued and ruined the story with Halo 4)

Don't really remember any other stories at the moment. ACIV: Black Flag spoiler.
Although I thought it was sad in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag when James Kidd / Mary died. Really liked that character.

I once was playing Call of Duty online with my buddies who were on the other end of the microphone. And as we were playing, we decided to play Free For All. So what happened was that my one friend kept getting owned and he got really ticked off. So at one point we heard sniffling on the microphone. We couldn't be sure because he wouldn't admit it but it really sounded like he was crying. So that's my experience with crying lol!

I only once have I came close to crying while playing a game. And that was because Star Wars: The Old Republic was so darn bad I nearly cried
