Heavy Rain could have been an Xbox 360 Exclusive?

David Cage, the head of development at Quantic Dreams spoke at the 2013 BAFTA's annual game lecture and mentioned that he had initially approached Microsoft with Heavy Rain, with the desire to make it an Xbox 360 exclusive title. Unfortunately for Microsoft, they were concerned about the story line being about the kidnapping of a child and wanted to change the "experience" to something like kidnapped cats. Are you friggin kidding me?! How can you take an exquisite game like Heavy Rain, with it's graphics, depth of story line and emotional attachment, and make it about the kidnapping of CATS?!

Thankfully, they decided against changing the game up for Microsoft. Seriously people...think about what Heavy Rain is and imagine it with cats in the story. Puh-leeze!

Oh thank God that didn't happen! Really? Cats?! In a way, I would love to see how they would of gone in that direction for a laugh, but in another and bigger way I am sooo glad they passed!

That is a major problem nowadays. In the past, if you wanted to do a game full of violence, with controversial plot and themes, then sure, go ahead, no problem there until it gets released. Now everything goes through a filter because it might hurt my feelings when i play it. I blame feminists for this!

Feminists? Oh dear lord... ;)

You're joking right? Blame parents, blame the stunted rise of emotional intelligence, blame different levels of moral growth, but feminists? What are you some kind of sexist jerk? One of the immature individuals who can't recognize a female in a game unless she is unrealisticially shaped? ...

Sorry let me step back and breathe. Okay. Seriously though what are you even talking about? Controversy is relatively new as in PSOne levels of new. And even then there was never a time when every thing was or wasn't okay. In Silent Hill you could not murder a childlike creature, but in Dead Space 2 you can. Heck in Silent Hill: Downpour you can show a child getting their neck snapped. However, you can't kill a child in Fallout 3. It's not nearly as simplistic as you make it out to be and the feminists thing was probably a joke, but it's a very, very tired one.

So happy that didn't come out that way. A game about kidnapping cats is just stupid, all that potential would have been a waste. Heavy Rain was a great game, the graphics were good and the story line kept me hooked. I'm fairly sure with a kidnapped cat plot I would never touch the game.

I think you may find out he was joking ;)

LOOL, Heavy Rain has one of the best storyline's I've ever seen in a videogame and they wanted to change it? That's madness! After I finished the game over and over, actually I think I've even "platined" it, only thought that cross my mind was, "Please make a movie on this." the story / argument is just fantastic, although in my opinion, gameplay could be a little bit better, to be honest there were some parts where I had to use my tongue to press the buttons LOL, not kidding, but overall, game was awesome.

This is a great knock against Microsoft. Not just the cats part, but the fact that they turned down the story line because....well I have no legitimate reason I can think of! How could they be so scared that creating this game would give them a negative reputation, when intergalactic warfare raked in millions for them? I can't for the life of me find the sense in this. Heavy Rain was the first time that a game truly felt like interactive cinema, where you really did influence the outcome. It is a piece of art. Microsoft being scared of taking a chance on something so enticing is brutal in my eyes.
