Hopefully we can "contain" ourselves this time

So not sure if you guys remember because it was a long time ago. But when the PS3 first came out, there were some unfortunate incidents involving violence, robbery, theft, assaults, etc surrounding the console. Including one incident where a man was held up at knife point for his cash while waiting on line to buy a PS3 console. Hopefully after so many years and time has passed, we've learned to contain ourselves from this consumer-driven violence. And when the console is released this year, people can make their purchases without being hassled.

So basically a similar experience to Black Friday? There ARE going to be a lot of people that are going to buy the PS4, hopefully it doesn't turn into a big mob where everyone is fighting eachother. They might run out of stock as well, which is probably going to be another reason why there are going to be fights. I highly doubt that people will be able to contain themselves.

I think we will see something similar with the PS4 to be honest. When you look at people on Black Friday, and just how ridiculously they went on, there are always going to be people who act in this manner because some people are just crazy like that. Anything big where stocks fall short is going to result in some sort of craziness though, let's hope there is enough to go around when the PS4 is first launched...

Yeah I have to agree unfortunately. There are people out there who just can't control themselves.

Well, the console is a lot cheaper than before, so i hope that this will decrease those events. But still, i hope they have stock for everyone that wants the console, because otherwise, things will definitely get messy.

I didn't know that geeks could be extremely violent! Lol, just kidding. Gamers are not geeks. Here in my place, there's no such thing as violence happening over some console launch. That's because only a few people here purchase a console at launch date. We normally wait for the price to drop before buying. That results to less violence. And more savings.

Black Friday I think is actually a lot uglier because EVERYTHING is marked down. Not just one item. When one item is made available, and isn't marked down to an insanely low price. It weeds out too many people. Mostly men and women show up for Black Friday. People of all ages as well. For PS4, it'll mainly just be 18 to 35 mostly men. As for stock, stores have to over-order inventory in cases like this. They should know better by now.

I remember a Black Friday where a man was trampled to death as people barreled into the store. I doubt this will happen for PS4 because most people will get it online or elsewhere. In some cases, a back alley where some joker snatched a few off a truck or from a warehouse somewhere. But the difference is Black Friday is geared to bring people off their couch and into the stores. Hence its popularity. I think this PS4 thing is just a hot item that'll be made available. But there isn't going to be a concerted effort to create a shopping frenzy.

You guys do because you're savvy. But don't underestimate the folks who aren't. All they know is, PS4 is coming out, and they must have it as soon as possible. For others, it's about buying it and flipping it. And for some people, Christmas depends on it. You'd be surprised at some of the parents who view these consoles as a chip in beating their ex wives or husbands at the game of "gaining their kids love". Their son or daughter will love daddy or mommy more if he or she gets them PS4 for Christmas. For some people, divorces are all about scoring points with the kid so he'll love one parent more than the other. And hot items like game consoles are just a part of that sad, but existing mechanism.

I wasn't even aware that there were lots of crimes specifically linked with the Playstation, but I suppose people will act this way with every highly sought after product. I've heard bits and pieces of news that were associated with Apple and theft, etc. and these crooks tend to get really creative when it comes to this. I do agree that Black Friday brings out the worst in people, and I've even heard of stampedes happening on these occasions, if I'm not mistaken. I agree that hopefully, since this year we are a lot more adept with buying things online, then a lot less of these should be happening.

I think they need to make the process easier, because who honestly wants to wait outside in a line for hours? I know supply is limited, but there's a large demand that isn't being met. A lot of people are so greedy, though, it's difficult to prevent these kinds of things from happening. I think store security should be a priority around release time, and maybe local police should monitor the lines periodically just in case.

You can completely release all risk of this if you preorder or purchase it online and have it shipped to your door. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can pay in advance and have it picked up at your store of choice before prime-time. That is, of course, if the store offers the option to. See, some obsessed people are like rabid animals and will mow down anyone in their way to get their hands on something before its too late on release. I didn't actually consider this, but it'll influence me to wait a while before buying if I don't preorder soon. I'm fortunate enough to never have come across a situation like this, but I bet it does happen and I hope people gain some semblance of common sense when it comes to these things soon.

I agree. I am buying mine online. Even if some networks have run out I will find it somewhere. I am not gonna risk going to a store to get it, especially during the New York holiday season. It's a beast here even without Playstation 4 being released.

its amazing that people cant control themselves for something that will most likely be around us for the next 5-8 years.

I feel like this is an issue that can be fixed by not making it sound like if you get your hands on it first then you get the device! Lets not race and kill to get a PS 4. Amazon itself is like "We have X and you just got X." The purchasing should already be decided and you should be in line to pick up a device prior to the first release of hardware that's just on shelves. There will still be crazy crowds, but at least you take the X out of the equation.

Having it first though is the driver of it. People these days wanna be special, exclusive, and stuff. It's the same attitude that drives people to pay huge amounts of money for name brands of shoes, clothes, etc. Or join exclusive spas, yoga studios, and such. Everyone wants something to put them above the next person.

I think that times have changed slightly since then, the people are still the same but security measures are a lot tighter, at least in the UK. There are countless amounts of CCTV cameras everywhere, and even if you did manage to steal something ,you would be instantly caught. But as always it's just safer to shop online ( and hope that the delivery man doesn't steal it ;) ) After the London riots, people were being caught and prosecuted for stealing as little as 3 bottles of water , so in this country we take this kind of stuff very seriously.

Well the UK is also less dangerous since you guys are really hard on guns and gun crime there. Here in America, everyone is encouraged to have a firearm. Even bad people.

Who knows what kind of monsters people turn into when greed suddenly becomes their dominate thought process? When you bait unrestrained consumption like Black Friday or those Bride Dress sweeps, then you encourage the locusts in society to just come out and ravage everything they can. Those of us who can keep our heads on straight just have to weather the storm and keep ourselves safe. You can't help people who ONLY want to help themselves.

Seriously is this serious people robbing, angry etc because of a console thats not quite right why would you rob like a vulnerable old man because you want a PS4? and like threaten to kill someone because you want to get in front of them lets hope it doesn't happen and if it does then the police will contain it.
