Horses In AC III

Did anyone use the horses outside of when they needed to in this game? I found them pretty useless and enjoyed running from section to section way more even when I could've used fast travel to a point.

I used them most of the time, in all AC games actually. There's something therapeutic about just getting a horse and travelling to your destination. Same as RDR :o

It's my preferred method of transport :D

I loved the horses in RDR. It was a western and the horses had to work, really. In the case of AC, I found the horses in AC3 to be decent enough. They played a larger role in AC3 since there was more traveling, but I preferred in AC1. Most likely the same horses, but different terrain which made the horses in AC3 seem somewhat ineffective. In AC1 it was typically a straight run from one city/town to the next. Not much varying terrain or anything.

I also preferred to travel by foot though.

I think due to the terrain in AC3 you often couldn't use horses as effectively as free running because the horses would take their time in making small jumps and wouldn't cross deep rivers.

I used them now and then but I did prefer free running. Now horses in RDR, those were amazing.

The horses in RDR were awesome. They worked like butter in that game. The terrain thing was something I left out as I do remember in AC1 you really did have more of a straight shot from one town to the next. It wasn't like it was just wide plains like in RDR, but it was maneuverable enough.

I dug the horses in RDR. Probably the best horses I've ridden in a game. There was really nothing wrong with the ones in ACIII except for that chase mission through the woods. It's like the horse went from perfectly acceptable to ineffective. I'd say the horses in AC are between RDR and Elder Scrolls IV and V, but closer to RDR. I should say Elder Scrolls V specifically because IV's horses didn't annoy me much.

I didn't really find a problem with the horses in ACIII as long as you weren't doing anything that was timed or urgent.

Yeah, some missions required that you to whatever destination posthaste and the horses were good for that if you could dispatch of enemies quickly. There was one part in the game where the horse just wasn't working for me (not navigating the terrain that well at all).

I know exactly what mission you're referring to and that horse was no good. I tried to do it by foot and had to be very precise with getting the horse through the woods.

That's what I figured out. I should've gathered that given that racing games depend on precise turns and the horse back missions had those elements.

Just to make sure...

Was this the mission where you had to kill the messengers in the woods?

Yes! I hate that mission. The horse did well on the Paul Revere mission--perfect actually--but that was mostly straight land to travel on. This mission had creeks, downed logs, it was dark. Like damn. It would've been easy if I had VATS from Fallout lol

Horses in AC3 were pretty much useless because of the forest like terrain that most of the game consisted of. I kind of liked the running from the different parts of the game on foot and climbing the trees as I went along. I didn't really use the horses as much and riding on a horse to me in AC3 is really boring. I preferred using horses in AC2 which to me is the best Assassins Creed game to have ever come out in the franchise.

I used horses just for the novelty and coolness. They were pretty useless outside of just looking cool on one IMO.

That's exactly how I felt about the horses. They were needed at times when you started on the horse, but I didn't care to use them. I also thought it was more fun to travel by foot.

I usually love horses in games, but the ones in the AC series never felt... hmm... right, so I normally avoided them. The ones in RDR felt much tighter and more fun to ride.

Agro is still my favorite, of course. :)

Wow, not even in RDR? Those horses are just about the best horses to ride in a game.

Yup, not even in RDR. I didn't hate them or anything, but they were just kind of... eh. I prefered to just use whatever fast travel I had available at the time. I don't like horses, I guess!

What was fun, though, was using the rope dragging people around while on a horse. Now THAT was super fun.

I've never dragged enemies behind the horse! I might have to try that.

When I didn't travel by foot I mainly fast traveled as well. If I could avoid it I didn't use the horse.
