How Can PlayStation Return To Its Former Glory With The PS4?

Looking back, I think the PS3 didn't become as popular as it should have been, considering they were coming off from the momentum of the PS2 at the time, and that momentum was huge. So what happened? What went wrong or where did they go wrong? Would you say that I am wrong and they are doing just fine?

To be clear, this isn't specifically about just the features that we would like to see on the PS4 but more about what you think made the older consoles so great, and how should Sony then integrate it back into the PS4 and make their console great again?

I wouldn't say Playstation lost its momentum with the PS3. I just think that because the PS2 was a huge success and was just fantastic, the PS3 was hyped up too much so it was prone to disappoint? I don't know. I thought the PS3 was/is fantastic the way it is. And after the announcement of the PS4, I think the future looks bright for Sony and the Playstation.

Well, in comparison with the PS2, the PS3 dropped the ball, at least in my opinion. I really hope that with the PS4 they just get their stuff together and focus solely on making a great platform that many great developers will want to create special content just for it.

Maybe people are going through Playstation fatigue. It's advertised a lot, and this is Playstation 4 now. And people feel the same way about movies. The first one is almost always awesome. The sequel is like the followup or the encore. But once you hit part 3, 4, and up. People fade and the fan-base becomes smaller. It just seems like overkill at that point. And I think many people would like companies to just stop at version 2 or 3, and make new games for that model. Parents who have to spend money on these new consoles can't be too happy either.

I think PS3 was perhaps a little over hyped, but in the end they delivered a great console in my opinion. I think perhaps the PS2 was more popular just because of the year it was released, technology is moving so quick that these days people own many other gadgets and perhaps gaming consoles too and so in the year 2000 a new gaming console was more anticipated than in 2006, when PS3 was released.

It needs to improve itself! They changed the processor to a pc architecture, so I'm not sure how that'll turn out. One of the cool things about the PS3 was it's cell processor. Also, they 'new thing' with the Ps4 is sharing, and I'm not sure everyone will be into that....
