How many PS1 memory cards did you own?

If you had a Playstation console, I'm sure you're very familiar with the Sony Memory Cards. Those were small boxes wherein you could plug into your console and save your game files. The first time I encountered a memory card was when I bought my first PS1. If I'm correct, it had 15 slots per card, and trust me, it was never enough. With all the games I bought, I had to buy more memory cards in order to store my save files. It was expensive back then, but it was worth it.

As we speak, I have 16 memory cards stored in my toolbox. I'm pretty sure I still had six more somewhere. Probably it got lost in the flood.

It's your turn to answer my question. How many memory cards did you own? Why so many? Why so less?

I probably had about 10 memory cards. I liked the fact you often got free memory cards with magazines that I used to buy. I didn't care much for having to own many cards, I was just happy to have the ability to save the game! (because my previous console was the Sega Medagrive).

Free memory cards on magazines?! How come no one told me that? According to my estimates, I've spent more than a fortune (for a kid, that is) buying memory cards. here is the justice in this world?

Haha, I'm kidding, mate. Yeah, saving games on a memory card is way more convenient than having to type in a long-ass password every time you die just to restart the level.

I'm looking at you, vintage games!

Damn. I only used one. I wasn't really a huge gamer then. And if I needed room, I would just delete a save or two from previous games.

I owned about 3 memory cards for the PS1, since I have a few RPG's which required more than one slot to save. Rather than use one slot, I have saved some of my games to several slots instead of overwriting them, especially if the game has a great chance of its files getting corrupted. Yes, FFVII, I'm talking to you and your corrupted files saying "The file is ruined." Saving multiple backup files for FFVII is a great way to counter the effects of ruined files. If the game doesn't suffer from file corruption though, one slot is enough.

Lol. What a funny thread! I had four memory cards. The first two memory cards that I had were fake. I dunno. But every time that we switched off the PlayStation, the data were erased immediately. We opened up the memory cards and found that there was a battery inside. I don't know why. So we purchased an additional memory card which was full by the end of the first week that we used it. We didn't want to erase anything from the card so we just purchased another one.

Oh yeah, I remember them! I didn't think I have a lot, maybe 3-4 memory cards. I didn't save games very often, since all the games I played didn't need saving. It was basically a pick-up and play game.

I had one official Sony one which i never "used". What i did was i used the other 3 memory cards i had, and when i had a important save, like 100% of a game, i would transfer it to the official one. Still have it near my PS1!

I've owned and lost several, and I have lost count of them through the years. I'd often lend it to a friend and forget to take it back, or leave it at their house and forget to pick it up again. At the same time, my friends have always done so at my house and I've been left with several of their memory cards as well. In between all of us trading and losing our memory cards, we'd often buy new ones as well whenever we can't be bothered to dig around the house for a small piece of plastic. So eventually, we collectively probably owned hundreds of them.

I had about 3 memory cards. The funny thing is that I did not have any memory cards when I first got my Playstation. I am pretty good when it comes to keeping my cards in tact so I have never felt the need to get more than the three I had.

I had so many memory cards, it wasn't even funny. I think I had somewhere between 3 and 5, but I really only needed two. If I had been more conservative with my data, I could have gotten away with just one. It's funny how the idea of memory cards seem to primitive when back then they seemed so essential.

For me, I have one playstation 2 memory card, four gamecube memory cards and three PlayStation memory cards . Plus, one of them came with animal crossing.

Probably 3 or 4. But I have like 7 or 8 memory cars for the PS2. And my PS3 is 320GB and it's the slim version. But I only had like 3 or 4 in my whole life for the PS1. I do miss the PS1 days though. I mean, I still play it, but I mean, I miss it being the big best thing. Before the PS2 came out.

Crikey! Those memory cards! I'm pretty sure I had at least five. Two official grey ones and three of those coloured ones which you could see through. A red one, a blue one and a green one. All of them were pretty much full by the time they come to the end of their days. I'm sure I had another one at some point early on in my PS1 days but it broke. I've only got vague memories of that though...

I have a confession with memory cards. I done something rather naughty with a friend's one when he was around my house one Saturday/Sunday. He nipped off to the bathroom and we were playing something (I can't remember what, now...) and I remember we were using his save game data as he was further ahead or had another feature to the game I hadn't yet. Something like that... Anyway, when he was out I saved/copied his data onto my memory card which was in the other slot! I just about got away with it too with about three seconds to spare. Hahaha! He never did find out!

Thinking about it for five minutes, it may have been getting that ludicrously insane, maxed out, Suzuki Escudo Pikes on Gran Turismo 2...(?!)

I had 5 of them and then bought more around the year 2000 when the prices were crazy cheap. I seriously maxed out every freaking memory card. ALSO, isn't it funny we no longer use memory cards? haha

Never owned a PS1, but my wife said she had 26 PS1 memory cards. And she complains when I want to buy a new game

I had two and they were both full of saves! They were pretty cool, and easy to use, I still have them and they're also still working!
You could also easily transport them to a friends house.

I remember having 3 or 4 for PSX and just one for PS2.
