How many PS4s will be defective at launch?

Hey guys, the PS4 will launch 2 weeks from now. Do you think that all of the units that would be shipped will be 100% free from defects? Nah, of course not. No console launch is perfect. If no console launch is perfect, how many PS4s do you think will be defective? Or maybe you could just give a percentage of PS4s that you think will be defective at launch. What's your estimate?

They seem a lot more confident this launch and a little more prepared, so I predict there won't be that many defective units. But like you said, a perfect console launch would be rare, and I would agree. I'm guessing less than half of PS3's record.

Sony is primarily a hardware company and great one at that so honestly I don't think there will be any real problem at launch. Both Sony and Microsoft learned their lesson last console release, no way they're going to allow across the board console failure again.

Well the PS3 at launch back in 2006 was really good in terms of system failures. There were only a small percentage of gamers that had gotten the "yellow light of death". I think I remember that there were aslo some problems with this first update that was required to start the system. For those unlucky few, don't lose hope for Sony altogether because your PS4 didn't work; try to buy another one so you can play with the rest of us. I'm going to get a PS4 and even if it breaks on me before I even start it, I'm just going to buy another one.

Man, I hope not many are, but I sure doubt they'll all be flawless. I hope at least if there's issues that they're not too problematic. Then again, Sony wasn't responsible for the RRoD, eh?

I wonder if stores have backup consoles just in case? It might be a good idea so they don't lose customers whose consoles don't work through no fault of their own. Maybe Sony would handle it themselves, but I doubt most people who pre-ordered or will buy on release date will want to wait for a new console to come in the mail.

I take it I'm not the only one who's heart skips a beat whenever they boot up a new console? Our kids Wii U didn't work, on Christmas too. Made me almost hate Nintendo lol

Hardware wise I think it will be fine, maybe the same as most electrical goods if not better. I'm more worried about software, with the amount of people installing different variations of games and media and logins etc etc I'm sure new bugs will be found. As long as Sony is on the ball and patch things quickly then there shouldn't be a problem.

I think this thread would apply more to Microsoft and the XBOX

Good question, but an impossible one to answer. But it's one of the reasons why I'm waiting a bit to buy. That and money, of course. It's remarkable what unintended good or bad consequences or features a product can have. I'm okay being the last person on the block owning a PS4 if it means I know I've spent my money well.

Oooo this is a fun one to think about! I doubt it will be that many though. It always seems like it's a ton since they make so many and then you hear some number in the thousands even though the made millions! If I had to guess I would say like 5% will be defective.

Yeah I was an xBox guy but until you just said that I had never even heard of the yellow light of death. So apparently it wasn't so bad.

I've made up my mind. Bad as I want to I'm gonna wait til next year to get the PS4.

Yes, this is a impossible question to answer. Although I am trusting Sony to ensure, that their are not any defective systems. Even though there will probably be 1000s of systems that may be defective, although you will not know anyone with a defective system.

Lol. I know that there are some of us who fan boys here but it's quite naive to say that there won't be any defects in any of the PS4 consoles at launch. Let's put it this way. Put yourself in the shoes of a Sony executive. Would you estimate that there will be NO PS4 defects? Won't you make any allowance for warranties? That's why there's a warranty you know - it acts as a contingency for defects.

As time p***es by, people supposedly learn from their mistakes. My guess is that there won't be that many defective PS4s.

There really is no way to tell. Like others said, Sony did not have nearly the problems that Microsoft did with Red Ring of Death. I imagine there will be some bugs, but I don't imagine it will be nearly as bad as the RROD.

No matter how experienced a company is or how extraneous their internal control is, there will always be defects. I do hope that customer service representatives are kind and courteous or else Sony is gonna be in the hot seat for sure.
