I'm getting a Playstation 4!

Hey guys! So, I'm back on PS4 Forum and I'm happy to say; I'm getting a Playstation 4! My good bud whom I've known for over 8 years, Seth bought me one. He's shipping it to me asap and I'll be gaming with him and my buds here in no time! Yes, he actually bought me a PS4 :O Angels do exist.

So I have a question; I won't be able to get PS+ for awhile or have any games, is there any deals or any free games for non-ps+? What can I do without any games? Also, add me, my PSN is the same as my forum username so feel free to add me.

What should I do first on the PS4?

From what I know, you can only play free games if you have a PlayStation plus account with internet.

Free to play games are exactly that. Free to play. you don't need PS+ for the F2P games. Warframe, War Thunder, Blacklight: Retribution and DC Universe Online are F2P games that you will be able to play with your friends without PS+. There are a few more really good looking F2P games coming down the pipes next year as well.

there are some free games yes.

Informative!

Anyways, as Dmadman said - Warframe and Blacklight: Retribution do not require a PS Plus subscription. I have tried a bit of both and for what they are, they're pretty fun. Not fantastic but still good fun. Planetside 2 is the next F2P game I'm most looking forward to.

Whaaat? I wish I had friends like that. The most they buy me is a beer on my birthday. As far as what to do without games on the PS4, there is Netflix ;) And just out of curiosity, why can't you get games or PS+?

Yeah,I was gonna say too,man...you must have good mates to buy you a PS4,and its not even Christmas or your birthday either?

Indeed, I wish I had friends like that! Well, even 'a' friend would be nice, but hey ho…! It's an awful lot of money to go spending on someone who isn't a close relative. I can't think of anyone outside of my close relatives who've spent more than £20 on me, yet alone in excess of £300. You're one very, very lucky person!

Generally speaking, I wouldn't sell anything to fund new games. I tried that in the past by trading in older games I had but I got next to nothing for them. I'd rather spend another week or two saving the extra money and keeping what you have – but that's just me…

Fingers crossed, I should have a PS4 in another two months time if all remains well. I've set myself a deadline of the end of January. I'll admit that I'm becoming fed up of waiting now (and I think I've been very patient). If there's no sort of better deal or bundle going in the post-Christmas sales, which is what I'm hoping for, I'm just going to have to 'bite the bullet' and buy one. As I've said before, I've saved a £50 Amazon gift voucher from last Christmas which will ease some of the burden and I've already had a hint from a family member within the last week that I may have another voucher at Christmas (no idea of the value). They know only too well that I've been moaning on for a year now that I've been waiting to get a decent deal/bundle – preferably at or under the £300 mark.

With regards to PS+, I'm still unsure what you can and can't do without having a subscription. There seems to be no clear guidelines or chart that I've found. I've never done any sort of online console gaming before so I have no idea what the situation is. As I generally avoid FPS titles and don't 'do' multiplayer, which seems to be the bulk of why you have a subscription, I don't really see the point in it for me to be honest. It would seem a waste of money if all there was other than that was a few 'free' games you could download. Even as someone who at best can only get gaming a couple of times a week, I don't see how I could get the value out of it. I really have no idea what to do about this at the moment. The jury's still out. Maybe get whatever the shortest subscription is available and trial it. I do want to give this whole 'online' scene a go to see what the fuss is all about, but I just haven't a clue what I have to do to go about it or what to expect. One of the reasons I've delayed in buying a PS4 for so long isn't so much because I feel priced out of the market still, but it seems a lot of it's functions/features are online. I just want to 'plug in and play' console - and spending all that money on garnish I'll probably hardly ever use has made me hold back so far...

I had an ageing Xbox 360 and a lot of games so traded them for a PS4 a couple of months ago, i had not seen a PS4 in action but on advice from my son i went for the PS4 instead of Xbox 1 as he said it had better graphics (he has PS3 so i thought he may be biased) having seen a few side by side videos i am glad he talked me into it, its a fantastic console, the only gripe i have is unlike Xbox you cannot (as far as i know) get a controller that you can use rechargeable batteries in, the battery life of the PS4 controller is a joke if you have the light on high and vibration turned on, i have had to buy a USB extension cable as i have the controller plugged in most of the time.

I do want to give this whole 'on-line' scene a go to see what the fuss is all about, but I just haven't a clue what I have to do to go about it or what to expect. I think the majority of gamers buy their games for the on-line play which gives the game longevity, i am the opposite to you in that most of my gaming is FPS, having said that my current favourite game which i haven't been on-line with is Assassins creed black flag, i also didn't go on-line with this game in the very short time i had it for my Xbox 360.

If you buy a bundle (i bought the Destiny bundle from Game store) you get 12 months PS+ free so can give on-line play a try.

The games you get free every month have caused more arguments in forums than any other subject i can remember, my view as someone who has always had to pay for on-line play (Xbox) is they are worth the money, this month we have had -

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Steamworld Dig

Escape Plan

I am not to keen on the Binding of Isaac but the other two are fine, December will see us get our first AAA game which is Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (PS4) and we are also getting Secret Ponchos (PS4).

As i don't have any choice and have to have PS+ for on line play i think these games are a bonus, until quite recently we got nothing from our Xbox subscriptions.

Ha. I don't even spend an awful lot of money on a close relative. Well except my brother's wedding coming up but that's a different story :)

Keep saving man. Maybe cut back on some luxuries you like to spend money on and put that in the PS4 fund. It adds up quicker than you think. And saving those gift cards was a good idea. Perhaps for Christmas you can ask family for Visa gift cards or whatever the equivalent is in the UK? It is a shame the funds aren't available now because there are some good bundles out right now.

It is a mostly multiplayer thing but it can be dependent on the publisher too. When I play Destiny, I can play without PS+ but I can only play the main story. The meat and potatoes of the game (raids and stuff) are unavailable if you don't have PS+. The free games are nice, but the crop of free games right now kinda sucks. If you don't do a lot of multiplayer gaming, you might be able to get by without it. If you do feel you need it, you can sign up month by month if there is a game you really need it for while you play it. And you can do it from the Playstation store so it isn't really inconvenient.

Thanks guys! Yes he's one hell of a friend and him and I go back almost 10 years. He's had my back in video games and in life. This is the first time in my life anyone has ever bought me anything of this magnitude. Last gift I got was about 7 years ago. The reason I can't buy games or PS+ is because, well, a lot of reasons haha. I'm a family man but I work at home. I have all these technical skills and abilities but when it comes down to it; working at home is a big blessing but also a curse. I do make enough every month to pay bills, food, rent and clothes. The extra stuff; just doesn't happen much. I am going to school part-time to be a Microsoft Systems Security Analyst + Cloud Computing/Networking analyst.

I will have a better life and in return I can maybe one day help my bud out when he needs or even when he doesn't need. For now, I have a family and school debt so I can't do games really and if Game Sharing wasn't so confusing I guess I could do that but that still even confuses a techy like me haha.
