Is PS4 Keeping Track Of Everyone's Gameplay Too?

I know the title is a little confusing, please allow me to explain.

I saw an Xbox ad that seems to signify that they are able to and have kept track of all their customers movements. I'm not really sure if these are made up statistics, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was real. Of course, with online accounts becoming the norm now for players, I wasn't really expecting any of these companies not to keep track of their players, but I honestly was a little taken aback at how closely and detailed MS keeps track of their games. I'm not really complaining, either, but I find it a little creepy like I'd feel like I'm being watched if it were me who was playing on an Xbox. Is this how PS4 does it as well? Has this always been the case since the previous generation consoles or is it just with these new ones? Do you not mind at all that every move is now seemingly being tracked? Am I the only one weirded out by this (albeit only slightly)?

That's pretty cool actually, very impressed with Microsoft. I hope so cause when a game keeps track of things like that, sort of like TellTale did with The Walking Dead video game, it's always an interesting feature and I love that! It's not that weird but if you're connected online with a game that uses online features then why not? Unless Xbox One stores your data on your HDD and Microsoft reads your... HDD? HOLY CRAP

Cool? That's creepy, Xbox One already has controversy regarding the Kinect watching you while you sleep. Then again it's just stats, but still, what else are they watching? :O

Yeah... Just a little creepy. Also I doubt that most of those are accurate. I can see the gamerscore number being accurate, but everything else seems...Odd, to say the least. I think it would be cool if you could opt in to a feature like that, but not be blinding recorded and data kept like that.

I don't see what's creepy about this. It's only stats that have been added up from the Xbox community. It's not like they name which players have done what. And if they had, it would be no different from a leaderboards. Which is in most games anyways.

Honestly, lately it seems that any and everything watches any and everything these days. I'm starting to get used to it-good or bad.

Love it! Until your health insurance company denies you that life saving procedure because you elected to play video games instead of working out...

I've never thought of this aspect before, but I agree it is a little worrying. I just hope it's not what this amounts to in the future, but it sure seems like the natural course from where I'm standing.

I heard about the Xbox Kinect thing, but I did not know if it was real or not. However the PS4 statistics are probably a little biased. They could however be basing it on those who play online, because I don't see how they could do it otherwise.

Well we all know that our stats are tracked. That's what we get when we sign up for online services, the games are tracking our actions from the decisions that we make in The Walking Dead to all of our achievements. I thought that was pretty much common knowledge, though I doubt that these stats are 100% correct (I'm pretty comfortable with suggesting that Microsoft are fudging the numbers).

It's not that I have anything against the whole tracking thing, but I do value my privacy. One of the reasons I was against the Xbox One (At first) was due to the fact that technically it never turns off, and the camera on it is a bit creepy.

As far as I know, I don't think Sony does the same thing however.

The Terms of Service and all those Policies probably tell you about online data tracking and such. Just know; they're not watching you make sweet love to your other half (or your self) so I don't care if they track my stats. Hell, our trophies are stats, why not? lol

Exactly. People don't read the Terms of Service but I wouldn't be surprised if they say that they track your data. I mean where do you think your achievements come from? Publishers, devs, and the console makers are tracking your data. It's not a controversy.

I wouldn't doubt Sony being able to do something like this with the PS4. However, I think its more developers that keep track of certain features taking place on their games, rather then Sony. Unless Sony keeps track of particular advances in game features with there published games itself, that I highly wouldn't doubt.

Well now we have to establish is this when someone is signed in and playing online. I mean if they are signed in and connected then Microsoft did say they'll monitor gaming activities in one of their policies in order to achieve customer satisfaction. It does seem creepy though but I'm not wanting to get bogged down with privacy issues because I mean if you own any form of social media and gaming is a form of social media then you're opening yourself to some degree of exposure whether it be this, a tiny amount that is unidentifiable or something such as your second name.
