Is Sony Giving Up On Vita?

This past E3, Sony almost completely ignored the Vita and made little to no mention of it or upcoming games and development for it. Now, it seems like Sony is getting their hands into the phone game industry, and I've seen some comments online stating that this would probably mean the upcoming end of their support for Vita because I assume it's failing badly. What do you guys think? Here is the new app game, stating by the end that there will be more coming soon:

Well I hope not considering I bought a Vita almost a month ago! Would be very upsetting if they were going to "phase it out" as the Vita has lots of potential.

Then again, there is the whole rumoured PS4 + PS Vita Bundle so there's a sign they may not be done with it yet. I think the lack of any Vita coverage during E3 may of been due to the unveiling of the PS4 and all their efforts were focused on that.

Anyways, the app video didn't really grad a hold of me. The fact that it seems like Coca Cola are trying to get in on this (sponcership!) turns me off a little. Then again I've never and probably will never play apps or anything like that on a phone (Heck, I don't even have an iPhone or anything of the sort)

I paid $249 for the standard Wi-Fi (not the 3G model) which came with Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale and a starter kit containing cases for games, screen protector and a case.

If Sony would stop supporting the Vita, could I buy yours for 50 bucks?

Still, I don't think that Sony is ready to give up on the Vita just yet. I think they'll try to integrate it first with the PS4 and see if that works well.

It is less forgetting about Vita and taking care of things like their upcoming system that they've invested a metric-crapton in. There is also the number of announcements connecting the Vita to the PS4 in a much more effective manner than the PS3. Also there is a larger store of games and benefits now. Besides if anything Nintendo has proven having a handheld on the market is never a bad thing, particularly if you aren't sure of your latest console.

I deliberately chose not to get a Vita and even today I consider that a good call. It's the same mistake they made with the PSP, great hardware that goes above and beyond a portable, but no real point and lame library. They go overkill on the hardware and not the software which is always the wrong call. They need to stop listening to the people that say gamers care about the hardware specs more than fun, quality libraries. One saving grace they should consider is a download or streaming library full of classic PS1/2 games, as current gen games on the vita are severely lacking.

No, I don't think they are forgetting about the Vita at all. You have to remember that they are preparing for the launch of their new console the PS4. Also, the Vita and PS4 pretty much go hand in hand with one another, to the point where there is a rumored bundle containing both that is supposed to be released. I'm sure that after the PS4 is released, Sony will have time to focus on both systems.

I would be angry if I wasted my money like that and they just gave up so suddenly. I think the psp did a way lot better but we are in the mobile stage so its going to be more difficult.

Well Sony are bring out a slightly smaller/slimmer/lighter Vita model with LCD screen (current Vita is OLED) so I dont think its been abandoned just yet.

If anything, support has just improved immensely! The launch of the cheaper, more comfortable model will certainly attract new buyers, and with the older model with the nicer screen still available I don't see how people can complain. What's more, the huge amount of support Sony is giving Indie Devs, as well as an increased focus on AAA games is making Vita more attractive than ever! Heck, I've been playing my Vita more than my 3DS, which I never thought would happen!

I don't think they have, the fact that it will connect with the PS4 is proof of that, I expect more news on the Vita front in the next few months once the whole PS4 launch craze subsides.

They are just trying out some new stuff because they just decided "PSP is selling good because of reasons, let's do a sequel to that piece of hardware" and then forgot that to sell hardware you need software, and now they spent all their money on the development of other stuff and need cheap solutions -indie stuff.

Exactly. They haven't meted much support to it. Connectivity to the PS4 is a step in the right direction. I'm hopeful they'll get it together soon and start hunkering down on some blockbuster projects.

Well, they are a company that produces great hardware: Sony stereos, Sony televisions, Sony mp3s, Sony headphones, Sony DVD, Sony Blu-Ray, Sony etc. Therefore they continue to produce products from the stance of amazing hardware specs. Also they have a streaming library of classic games - they have had this for like a couple of years now. It's one of the things I used to present as a reason for getting it.

Mobile phones as gaming devices is laughable. The joke of the century! They have nothing worth it compared to a proper handheld.

The Vita is doing fine and Sony isn't giving up yet, as shown by Vita TV, Vita-2000 and Remote Play for PS4. Plus, the Vita is already in a good position; despite not selling a LOT, it has a high attach rate in its userbase (meaning Vita owners buy a lot of content for their Vitas). It's an excellent handheld if you like proper indie games (not the crap that usually shows up in mobile stores) but it does have some big titles too.

I don't think Sony should give up on Sony. I think if anything they should try to upgrade Sony's systems and make it even better for everyone. I think Sony will come out with another handheld system in the future.
