Japan kinda interested in next-gen

I'm really rooting for Sony to do well in Japan, and I always assumed they would since it is a Japanese product. I had no idea handhelds were much bigger there, but I trust Sony already has anticipated their market there well enough to know what they are doing. I hope it gets sold out there as well to get Japanese game developers interested and we'll hopefully see a lot of Japanese games for the PS4.

every Japanese person I know already has a PS4 lol

Granted I just know 3 and only 2 of them actually live in Japan

I'm surprised that they didn't release the PS4 first in Japan. They did it with every other console they have released and the US were the ones importing the consoles. Funny how the tables have turned and its a Japanese product.

It was said that they didn't have enough games mostly for a Japanese market to warrant a release yet. Usually when Sony launches PS in Japan there are a handful of Japanese games to sate fans there with the rest being worldwide titles--sports games, racing, and so on.

Plus handhelds are the big thing there as said before.

Hmm. When you put it that way, it does make sense to me.

At the time it was really odd, but looking back at the launch lists for PlayStation consoles it makes sense. Most of those released for PS4 are western market games and "worldwide" releases.

I'm sure there's a method to Sony's madness for Japan. They have nothing to worry about since Japan is Sony-Nintendo country and its actual competition Microsoft most likely won't crack it.

There's definitely a method to their madness, but it's just to make sure Japanese fans have something they'll actually grab a PS4 for en masse. You're not going to get 2-3 million fans in Japan picking up the PS4 off COD, Madden, and NBA 2K.

That's a Microsoft tactic to run with what you have in Japan.

While it's likely, Microsoft might just surprise us this generation. If they don't get it done this generation and actually do something to get some significant consoles in Japan then it's never going to happen. Third time's the charm.

I guess so. We'll have to wait and see Microsoft's performance. That's the real show here when it concerns Japan.
